MAGAts flipping out over this. I love it.
"For me, there is something wonderfully poetic about the fact that the first person to criminally prosecute Donald Trump is a black Harvard grad.
And a black woman is doing the same exact thing in Georgia. And a black woman forced you to pay a $175 million dollar fine.
Donald Trump is being held to account by the very multicultural, multiracial democracy that hes trying to dismantle. Go DEI. My DEIs are bringing it home."

A guy I know proved this when he heard Beyonce's #1 country hit.
He whined, "Why do they have to take over this too? Whenever 'the blacks' get into something, they end up winning! Why can't we have one area where we're the only ones? Like women's gymnastics used to be!"
LOL.
(I did point out that when Ray Charles added "country" to his huge repertoire of genres, he was #1 too. You can exclude excellence, but you can't prevent it.)

(46,747 posts)Whenever they wave the American flag, or try to steal Jesus, I say, "Why do they have to take this too?" It did alienate me from the things I once believed in. Now I realize that it's just something that looks the same, but isn't the same.

(46,747 posts)I have to wonder if there is not something very culturally ingrained in a society that is consumed with expansion and dominance. From the Vikings, to the crusaders, to British colonialism and now what we have going on in the U.S.

Ive been telling her for years that what the US is experiencing can and will happen there. She doesnt believe that our debacle happened before our very eyes. Gonna be a rude awakening.

(10,193 posts)I never understood why the US always was so red when I know for a fact, there are a lot of blue voters hidden in most of the red areas.
But if you color it by the number and concentration of voters it does turn to blue.
That damn electoral college was just a power grab by slave owners.
Thanks for posting it.

(1,178 posts)They have every much right to that as anyone else, for both have plenty to justify their association with it.
Jesus and Christians support divisiveness, even amongst family and friends. Or have you not read Matthew 10?
Both support getting violent with people, including over non-violent offenses. But do tell us how gleefully sending non-believers to hell or whipping those vendors at the Temple isn't violent. I'll wait for that explanation.
The problem with most Christians is that they haven't read the book. They've glanced at passages. They've believed what their clergy told them the book said or meant. But they haven't read it for themselves.
Try it sometime. You might learn that he book has far more in common with right-wingers than would ever make you comfortable.

(46,747 posts)W.C. Fields once said that he only read the Bible to look for loopholes. God Bless him.
It comes down to who is interpreting those passages and is an influencer for others. In Christian based Third World countries, the teachings are benign and try to bring out the best in people to assuage society's failings. But in the Anglo-conservative American society, it's just one more tool in the box to gain dominance over everyone else. Let's face it. Churches in America have become politicized. At a minimum they should be paying taxes.

(19,075 posts)The right is mentioning DEI for every issue right now. DEI is blamed for Boeing's problems. They even blamed DEI for the bridge disaster.
What they don't get is that if you're only going to hire straight white males, you're not going to get the best people for the jobs.

(70,147 posts)i was given a cushy job w the engineering crew cuz they thought i couldnt hack being a real carpenter.
i split my time btn running a transit and level w 2 certified surveyors, and shuffling blueprints and concrete tickets in the office.
they let me bring my kid when she had pink eye. they included me in family dinners w the whole crew and some top execs. i honestly thought they did all this for the aa credit.
i was so wrong. your other education/experience isnt supposed to count for anything in the bldg trades. i had a 2yr science degree. they were grooming me for management. went rt over my head.
as the project wound down, my work was almost done, and i was offered a deal- pick up your tools, or b laid off.
since the carpenter crew was also whittled down, and included the bosss son who took a piss off a scaffold rt where i was pounding nails into concrete, i took the lay off.
biggest mistake of my life. worse than my 1st marriage.
it makes me furious to see them pumping up the idea that dei is about the unqualified. cuz ppl who benefit from it find it hard not to believe that, too.
What's maddening is to see the boards and CEOs/CFOs of all of these companies whose problems they're blaming on DEI, yup, same recycled old white guys that f*cked everything up all along.
What they don't get is that unqualified white guys are getting the best positions more times than not right now. And more qualified women or monorities are getting passed over on the regular. Maybe if Boeing hasn't been completely run by white guys for time immemorial, they wouldn't have all these problems.
On things that they get up in arms about, like airline pilots for instance, they don't get that if it's mostly white male pilots getting hired, then some of the best pilots are getting passed over. They completely discount the fact that white males often get hired despite being underqualified. That the best person for the job regardless of race or sex was not a white male is where they get lost.
DEI is their new code word for being racist, sexist, and homophobic. And I work in aviation, I see a field dominated by older white males and wonder if the best people are getting left behind because they're not white males. And I say that as a white male.

(16,437 posts)Absolutely! And they use it the same way they used to use "affirmative action." Different terminology used to mean the exact same thing: that when straight, white, cis males don't get the favoritism they're used to, everything goes straight to hell.
Incredibly offensive, but if someone tries to call them out, they're like, "Racist/sexist/whatever-phobic? Moi? Why on earth would you think such a thing?" *batting eyelashes innocently*
I'm so over this crap.
Johnny2X2X
(19,075 posts)It's so wide spread they use it matter of factly now. And I think some people use it without really even thinking about what they're saying, not that that is an excuse.
They've just been convinced that white males are being robbed of jobs because companies are hiring unqualified women or minorities to meet some imaginary quota. What they don't get is that a lot of smart companies recognized that they were missing opportunities and threats because because they only were being led by the same types of people. And they recognized that the best people for the job were getting passed over. Those companies are out competing less diverse companies now.
There's this view on the ground too that any minority or woman is a diversity hire and those people get blamed and treated suspiciously. When the fact is that the opposite view actually carries more weight, if a company is promoting only white males, people should be suspicious of them, were they really the best person for the job or do the executves just automatically give more weight to white males? The fact that the constant drone of proganda from conservative victimhood culture has obscured the obvious is problematic. You get a bunch of self entitled people who can't look at themseves or others honestly.

(46,747 posts)The entire system of justice was gamed to benefit white, conservative men. When the rules don't work for them, they go around them. So it took the demographic that has always been undermined by the rules, written or sidestepped, to go balls to the wall.
