(35,533 posts)why people vote for Trump. I saw a marker on a grave at the cemetery "This man had no redeemable qualities, but he was loved".

(68,983 posts)I don't care to understand them any more than I have any interest in understanding Concentration Camp guards. Trump is not just a con artist. He is pure evil. Anyone who follows him is an idiot, dishonest cruel, racist, and, misogynistic. A Trump win would lead to bloodshed and likely a civil war.

(15 posts)Inauguration day: massive protests in DC. Trump orders troops to break up protests. Tear gas and billy clubs and arrests used on protsters. ANTIFA responds, throwing rocks at police. Police cracks down even more. Protesters respond by burning and overturning cars and spraying grafitti on government buildings. Ppolice responds even more. The gutless press blames both sides. In short, I predict a BIG riot.

(9,852 posts)President Bidens side isnt like that. And then with that said why does a war start? They got what they wanted. Please dont spread needless fear.
Yes Id be angry, disappointed, disgusted, thinking the only way it could happen was cheating, but violence is not an acceptable answer.
I predict a mirror image of Portland, Oregon. It will get ugly.
You do know that "Portland, Oregon" has a distinct odor about it. [On edit] You're talking about the Portland that was burnt right to the ground and is a smoking ruin, right?

(11,539 posts)The orange one is their chance to hurt the Dems & Libs. He's a mean, nasty and cruel man and that is what they like about him.
Its all about hate - which is the saddest part of this equation. Hatred rules with these kooks, I dont bother to reason with them. They know where I stand. I go out of my way to engage and reason with independents and moderates, but the cultists arent worth a nano-second of my time.

(5,264 posts)Being a hate-filled, racist scumbag creates many opportunities for business-minded leeches to siphon money from them by playing to their rhetoric and desires. There are whole industries that are pandering to these animals and we are doing little to nothing to call them out for it.
After all, it is just good business to bleed both sides of any issue, all the while covertly stoking both sides. The modern media is a great example of this practice.

Good has been equated with "boring."
I believe this is purposeful as oligarchs and major corporate conglomerates have largely monopolized the media and that increasingly disconnects them from the legitimate needs of the people.
Their top decision makers on programming or publishing isolated from the masses then become increasingly cynical and alienated from the American Public.
In that sense they have more in common with fellow oligarchs overseas.
Thanks for the thread kpete

They think they'll be the guards at the camp.
They think they'll get the jobs those evil "libruls" are stealing from them.
They may be right about the camp guards.

(13,446 posts)Its not all that tough to see, its the inevitable point thats been warned of for decades. Trump and his fake news is just a variation of liberal media thats been used as an essential tool in equipping the cognitive dissonance firewall in the brains of Right Wing media consumers, from talk radio and Internet sites to Fox News et al.
Decades of lying and collecting an audience open to and thirsty for the lies makes an attractive and easy mark for a con man.

(82 posts)I agree that it is hard to believe that these people can't see clearly. However, don't forget that he is not just some solitary person ranting at the sky. In addition to legal support, the GOP allowed TFG to hitch himself to their wagon. This is basically what happens when someone who is charismatic (to some) connects with a prominent organization that has been literally marketing disinformation for decades. And it's awful.

(245 posts)Our country has been building toward this for many years: for so long the domain of older, white males, the U.S. is becoming multiracial, multicultural, and omnisexual. The old guard (now the extreme right-wing Qanon GOP) is desperate to retain its power, and they can only do it through lies and threats of violence. As the desperation grows, look for their efforts to become more extreme. Will it come to an actual civil war? I don't think so, but it requires the rest of us (a large majority) to vote and do whatever we can to keep truth in the equation.

(6,295 posts)I believe that at some point in the past, it was decided that the only way to really dumb down citizens was to deny them the chance to understand how our Democracy works, what made it strong and keeps it strong, and what voters/citizens need to do.
I took civics and government classes in high school in my sophomore and junior years.
So why do they support the likes of 45?
I believe no public school civics classes and the pervasive FOX's anti-Democratic fallacies and out-and-out lies, and you have the making of DUMB eligible voters. Dumb low IQ voters. Dumb, struggling voters. And yes, some very rich and powerful agents who only want more power and more riches. And they are willing to hook their wagon to a 21st-century fascist.
A short factual story:
And YES, I would bet that some of those individuals (family and lifelong friends) have and will vote for 45 again.

(1,196 posts)Born in 1937, I had Civics in grade school where we learned how a bill became a law and other tidbits about how our government works. When my kids were in public school in the seventies, Civics was included in a general, watered down Social Studies curriculum. My granddaughter who is a teacher is now having to teach lockdown procedures.

They want to hurt people that are different, they want to embezzle and cheat on their taxes and get away with it. they want to cheat on their spouses and face no consequences. They want to discriminate, insult, threaten violence and be applauded .
Lessons for the rest of us: It is UNWISE to do business with Trump supporters. They ADMIRE his dishonesty. It is UNSAFE to date a Trump supporter - they are okay with sexual assault.

(18,658 posts)This is what a NY Times poll heard a lot in swing state polls.
Particularly from conservative young black and Hispanic voters.
What they dont get is that they want change because Republicans have screwed up government so much that it is hurting people. They dont understand that voting for Trump and Republicans will bring much more of what they want to change. Not create a fresh new government that will make things better.

Also, he said what they wanted to hear, so they'll go ahead and attribute the Obama economy to him.
