(1,143 posts)And you were talking about her music. You said how the songs were about breakups. You brought up the music and you did talk about it.
She has said a lot and even put her career on the line to speak out. Maybe Google and see?
Earth-shine
(4,044 posts)Why should she be the spokesperson for your values?
I probably share your values on these topics, but I don't expect a pop star to be singled out to represent me.

(4,044 posts)C'mon. Stop already.
Other people on this thread have already shown you she has taken activist actions, much more than I would ask of her.
I'm going to stop answering you now, because I think it is encouraging you to be silly.

(22,596 posts)But how we love when she encourages her followers to get out and vote for our side.
I'm betting there's nobody here who has done a fraction of the political activism that she has done but how so many love to sit in judgment of her. Frankly, that makes me sick.

You really have no clue what you are talking about. Happily several DUers are provided you links to Swift's stances on Abortion, civil rights and so on to educate you.
Maybe you should consider self-deleting this ill-informed thread.

I don't really follow her (outside the headlines) but I think the love/breakup songs are pretty much her brand.

(201 posts)You'd think that people would've had enough of silly love songs
But I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know

(18,733 posts)None of her peers, or more accurately near peers, are putting out deep political songs either.
Ms Swift however does use her popularity to encourage her fans to be aware and active politically. That is more than most others do.

(29,674 posts)And has donated plenty over the years. She's pays her employees very well, donates to food pantries in every city she's in and voices public support of candidates. She believes in voting rights and encourages people to vote.
She's found her niche is in music many identify with. Do you criticize Stephen King for writing yet another horror novel instead of a book about (your subject here)? Did you criticize Drake or The Weeknd or Coldplay, all in the top 20 touring acts of last year, for not being political enough?
Just stop.

(62,276 posts)...and then she drops another 15 songs in the middle of the night after fans were understandably upset. Marketing genius really.
(Note the boyfriend she had at the time was so unabashedly racist that I dare not post it here, but he has a kink for interracial degradation stuff and said some really bad shit about it.)
Sympthsical
(9,091 posts)So many of her fans have a completely toxic parasocial relationship with her - one she winkingly encourages and is part of the devotion to her.
"Vipers in empath's clothing" is such an amazing shot at the terminally online, entitled, and performative who think they have any say-so in strangers' lives.
Gotta go listen to that one. I mean, the boyfriend was trash. Thanks to my niece, I know more about that whole situation than I ever need to.
But "sanctimoniously performing soliloquies" - that is true confrontational art I can appreciate.
Just going to pour a coffee and go to Reddit to see the fall out of that one.

(6,378 posts)She may not tell her audience what to think she shows them how to act.
Her opening act in cincy
Muna, a solid up and coming quartet of non-binary rockers that the right wing would force into conversion therapy rather that celebrate.
Her tour makes a ton of money and she dumps a 100k bonus on each of her 55 semi drivers that the right wing would be trying to squeeze for another penny a mile profit.
Im sure there are other examples and Im sure her fans know every one of them.
Im not a swiftee and ended up at the concert as a plus one. But
its clear from her stage patter and the crowd response that Swifties arent confused about her stand in abortion, womens rights or politics. She just doesnt hit them over the head with it.

(1,143 posts)She has spoken out about abortion and womens rights. She has put herself up as a target for the extremists. Taylor has registered a lot of people to vote.
She writes what she truly knows. Does she have to do a pro choice anthem to be on the right side of things? She has done more than me. I am older and disabled. The only thing I have done is donate and tell my sons if they get a girl pregnant I will step up and fly her to a place where she can get an abortion.
I think she has done more than her fair share.

Sometimes, music is just music. Not everything has to be infused with politics.
