I wonder if we've hit a point where SCOTUS will do whatever it takes to make Trump POTUS again? (Original Post) Girard442 Apr 27 OP

I'd say the right move is to vote and pray -- and I'm not even religious. Girard442 Apr 27 #12

They'd be hunted down and ....it's too much outside the realm of realism for me. They can tweak and push a lot, but they can't be so stupid to upend the entire country.

Zero concern for democracy, the Constitution, their reputation, or anything else

...Bush was a proven commodity. He was kinda dumb but, love him or hate him, a relatively nice guy with no intention of becoming a dictator.

Trump is a quite different animal. People see him as a mendaciously nasty, mean, vindictive, malignant narcissist.

I don't see SCOTUS overthrowing 200+ years of democracy for that clown. Call me naive. Whatever.

You’re not naive though this is still just another chapter in America’s Guinness Book of Bizarre Domestic Adventures.

No SCOTUS ruling can actually itself disband the coequal branches, and in an emergency situation the other branches and their backers will just pivot to dealing with the current problem until it’s resolved, even if it isn’t pretty or painless. We already had an actual civil war before which didn’t destroy the system; there just isn’t enough steam to start one to force the issue now even if the guy wants to throw fits with a miniature ragtag rebellion. The storming of the Capitol made it controversial to send in armed resistance, but had they actually needed to they wouldn’t have lasted an afternoon… even with weapons (last time a civil period of war broke out they didn’t have drones and strategic warheads). Plus, Russia is fuming mad because the battle for self determination is at their doorstep, it’s much harder to run interference now that we’re all eyes-open.

I think everyone is just sticking to their own back yards at this point minus the active shooters who are too masculine to be comfortable with their own humanity (I read recently that they are so philosophically adamant about sex being for procreation only and not for any fun at all that they’re essentially as evolved as a computer script repeating {ctrl + c; ctrl + v} with their aggro meters set to #terrible toddler# mode… classy and a hoot at parties). Regular biology and a dash of smarts is going to win out over this particular gene pool, party issues and the odd college protest stuff aside, it’ll collectively be fine even if we have to look out for each other a little more than expected during the troubles and indulge in the odd pessimistic post here or there.

They have made it clear they think that not doing so would be socially irresponsible. I mean think of all the both sided foolishness we might engage in. Like using the 14th amendment. Or not accepting fascism.

They (the fascist 5-6) refused to talk about the immunity case, absolutely refused. They are sending it back to the appeals court to determine if any of this was presidential when that court already ruled it was not! They are making sure there is no election interference case and are probably blocking the documents case as well - traitors that they are if they vote this way. Wonder what they will do if appeals court rules quickly that it is all personal and sends it back to Chutkan? I think they would block it and refuse to hear the case until after the election or hear it but not rule until after the election. If Biden wins, they will rule no immunity, if tsf wins they will say great deference is needed and we'll forgive it this one time only. Watch!
