Our people are angry. We are determined.
A few words to Republicans and others who would dare attempt to install fascism:
We are showing up at the polls.
In the words of Anonymous:
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Expect us.

(14,768 posts)He needs the House and he needs the Senate inorder to get stuff done.
This battle to beat back Fascism is not over by a long shot. The battle has just begun.
We slept through a couple of decades and let this Fascism creep up on us. Now they have a pretty strong hold on the political apparatus that we must wrestle back away from their death grip.

(574 posts)It began in the 1950's under the guise of fighting communism at the front door while leaving the back door wide open for right wing extremists to slip in. Organizations like the John Birch Society, the Heritage Foundation, and the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) have diligently worked for decades going after state legislatures and governorships. They understood that controlling the state governments meant they could go after voting rights and gerimander the districts enough to effectively disenfranchise voters who didn't agree with them.
They've been successful. They now have control over enough states to be rolling their fascist ideology up to the federal level. That's what's been on full and open display with Trump and the MAGAts across all three branches of the federal government.
Winning the House, the Senate and the White House is step 1and only Step 1. Then it'll be time to hunker down for the battles to take back individual states.

the business coup attempt against FDR in the 30s. There has always been an undercurrent of fascism in the modern republican party. See Rachel Maddows work in this
regard.

(14,642 posts)Otherwise Trump, Bannon, Miller and the rest will institute a 'thousand year reich' that will literally destroy civilization in what? Twelve years? That is how long Hitler's reich lasted until Germany was a ruin that Allied soldiers were picking their way through.
I'd hate to have that happen here. I really would.
I'm thinking we really need to take a page from Nancy Reagan and 'just say no' to Trumpy.
With any luck the guy will end up in prison. Fingers crossed, you know?

(9,113 posts)about them anymore........Maybe they are doing there stuff covertly, and just not talking about it anymore.
They sure have their work cut out for them this time: The Director of National Intelligence, in the past days has stated that we will see an un-precedented amount of interference this time around, by Russia, China, Iran, and NKorea........And it has already started......
That, with all the skulduggery the Republicans across the states are doing to sabotage the voting/election, it is:

(32,297 posts)at the end of the day people came out for Hillary too - it wasn't enough. You've got to win the electoral votes. Concentration on the swing states is vital.

(9,113 posts)When I was in speech class in eighth grade (1963) practicing debating, and one of the things we debated was getting rid of the Electoral College, due to the fact it was directly screwing over the popular vote, and therefore democracy.........
That was what? like SIXTY YEARS AGO !!!!!!!???????
That same year, our Social Studies teacher entered the class room, visibly shaken, and told us all that JFK had been assassinated.

(3,794 posts)And, it's not "our people" that will be the problem. No, the problem will be those moderates, the mostly-apolitical, low-information voters who emerge every for years, stick their fingers in the air, and vote however the wind blows. Because, you can tell them reproductive rights are at stake, the supreme court is at stake, hell, that democracy itself is at stake, and I don't believe it will matter.
All they care about is inflation, the cost of living, and they'll give their vote to anyone, no matter how obvious to us what a criminal and conman they are, if that person says they can fix it.
We just may not be able to overcome all that.

(32,297 posts)for the love of g-d, that is not the way for Biden to win the election. It absolutely helps investments, but it really hurts the working (lower class) and some of the poor. If they are using credit cards at all it is hurting them a lot. Biden should be finding ways to convince the Feds to lower rates and lower gas prices. The rest will fall on deaf ears. In middle America people spend hours talking about the price of eggs and gas ... and they don't care what Paul Krugman thinks about it all.

(15,616 posts)Nothing is certain about the upcoming election.
I think, however, the odds are better than the polls might indicate for Democratic victory, that a combination of anger at and fear of Trump and the Republican party will drive Democratic voter turnout in a way not well reflected in the polls. Democrats have certainly over performed in many elections since the Dobbs decision, so thats a reasonable cause for a positive outlook.
I totally reject, however, the magical thinking that one creates victory by believing really, really hard in victory and refusing to consider defeat. Doubling down on a believe-really-hard strategy by shouting down anyone you think is spoiling the magic spell when they express doubt is just obnoxious. There are real causes for concern, and people shouldnt be vilified as agents of sabotage because they give voice to their worries.
I wish a bigger part of Democratic victory would come from a proper appreciation of what a great job Biden has done as President, as well as many other Democrats, but unfortunately only those of us who follow the news closely and look beyond the downbeat headlines are in that contingent.

There are ENOUGH votes out there for Trump to win and for Biden to win.
