Suspect arrested after break-in at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' home

Source: ABC News

A suspected intruder was arrested early Sunday morning after a break-in at the home of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, according to police.

"Around 6:40 AM this morning an individual smashed a window to gain entry into the Getty House while occupied," the LAPD PIO said in a statement on X. Bass and her family reside at the Getty House in the Hancock Park neighborhood in Los Angeles.

The Mayor’s office tells ABC News Bass was one of the occupants who was at home when the intruder broke in, but did not specify if she had an interaction with the suspect. "There were no injuries to the occupants during this incident," LAPD wrote, adding, "The suspect was taken into custody without incident."

Authorities said late Sunday night that the suspect, who was identified as Ephraim Matthew Hunter, 29, was booked on a felony burglary charge. His bail was set at $100,000. It was not immediately clear if Hunter had a legal representative. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Less than a mile up the street from me. I guess it wasn't the same person with apparent mental challenges who verbally assaulted me while I was walking to CVS today. The mayor's residence is actually in Windsor Square which is adjacent to Koreatown where I live. Actually a great place to live with lots of walkable destinations.

I've had an even worse encounter with someone who seemed to be on "the margins." I still consider the area to be quite safe. What bothers me more are people who complain about the presence of people in need. The Mayor is in the process of executing programs to get people off the street. There do seem to be fewer tents/encampments around the neighborhood, but I don't want to jinx it.

Even with the encampments, those residing there don't want trouble for the most part. They're basically just neighbors on hard times. While walking past a tent a block from my house during a heatwave last year there was an elderly pedestrian in some sort of distress. There was a contingent of people including the tent folk who were trying to administer help to the man who had collapsed to a squatting position on the sidewalk. The man was resistant to any help so he eventually got up and stumbled away as swiftly as possible. But my point is that it's sad that people in need, regardless of how good they are are looked upon as a nuisance. We live in a punch down society.
