Washington CNN -- GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday she will force a vote over House Speaker Mike Johnson's ouster next week - a move that comes after Democrats have said they will vote to kill the effort and ensure Johnson doesn't lose his job.

"I think every member of Congress needs to take that vote and let the chips fall where they may and so next week, I am going to be calling this motion to vacate. Absolutely, calling it," she said at a news conference. Greene's decision puts an end to weeks of speculation over whether she would move forward to trigger the consequential vote. The move escalates pressure on Johnson and sets up a major showdown on the House floor, even though the vote is expected to fail.

Johnson has defended his leadership against the threat, saying that he will not resign and warning that a vote to oust him could cause chaos in the House. "This motion is wrong for the Republican Conference, wrong for the institution, and wrong for the country," the speaker said in a statement after Greene's announcement.

Many Republicans oppose the push to oust Johnson and do not want to see the House GOP Conference devolve into disarray like it did after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted in a historic and unprecedented vote last year. Greene on Wednesday insisted she is "absolutely not" defying former President Donald Trump, even though Trump has defended Johnson, by forcing the vote.

Greene says she will force a vote to oust Speaker Johnson next week

Washington CNN -- GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday she will trigger a motion to vacate against House Speaker Mike Johnson next week to force members to put their position on the record - a move that comes after Democrats have said they will vote to kill the effort and ensure Johnson doesn't lose his job.

"I think every member of Congress needs to take that vote and let the chips fall where they may and so next week, I am going to be calling this motion to vacate. Absolutely calling it," she said at a news conference.

"I can't wait to see Democrats go out and support a Republican speaker and have to go home to their primaries and have to run for Congress again, having supported a Republican speaker -- a 'Christian conservative' -- I think that'll play well. I'm excited about it," she added.

Greene railed against Johnson for roughly 10 minutes, taking issue with his support for Ukraine aid and focusing on the recent announcement that House Democrats would vote to kill her effort to oust him. "Now we have (House Democratic leader) Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats coming out, embracing Mike Johnson with a warm hug and a big, wet, sloppy kiss," she said. Greene said she didn't trigger the motion previously because she was being "controlled" and "responsible."

that I've never opened, though it's a few weeks past its Best Used By date. Maybe I can still get away with using it for the tuna salad, but I better get some neighbors to sniff it first, just to make sure.

This is weird: Greene said she didn’t trigger the motion previously because she was being “controlled” and “responsible.” The direct implication being that lacking outside restraint, she is inherently out of control and irresponsible.

She is a virtual lock to be re-elected. Yes the Dems are running a retired Army vet against her but that’s a long shot in that district.

If it passes they support him. If it doesn’t they don’t give him a lifeline.

I can't stand Mike Johnson, but he will remain Speaker for at least TRYING to get something passed out of the do-nothing House. And it was something that actually mattered.

She has practically no political sense whatever that doesn't involve firing up her ignorant constituents or giving back to her poorly hidden handlers.

Anyone who doesn't yea realize what she is is a fool,, spouting Russian boilerplate via bullhorn on the Capitol steps should have been a dead giveaway.

I don't know how this will go. One hopes the little (insert pejorative) will get her bony butt walloped, that even the Nutcase Caucus will abandon her, but we know Democrats aren't going to vote to keep Johnson, he's pissed them off too many times by lying almost as much as his Lard and Savior does.

And MTG was giving statements to the press insisting the election was stolen and vocally supporting all of TFG's lies and his insurrection plans before she was even sworn in.
