Washington CNN President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have both accepted an invitation from CNN to debate on June 27, a historically early showdown that will set the tone for the final months of the 2024 campaign.
Ive received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place, Biden said in a post on X.
A Trump campaign official later told CNN that Trump had accepted the offer.
The news is the latest development in a quickly escalating tit-for-tat over debates between the two political rivals. Bidens campaign earlier called on Trump to join him for two presidential debates hosted by news organizations and formally informed the Commission on Presidential Debates that the president will not participate in its previously scheduled fall debates. The former president quickly said he was on board with earlier debates and told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would accept any moderator.

Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasnt shown up for a debate.
Now hes acting like he wants to debate me again.
Well, make my day, pal.

Oops! I bellied laughed so hard I farted. And my dogs did not notice. Even with their scent skills.
So all good.
And there is no way Trump is farting at least Out his bottom anus. It is so packed with spineless heads there is zero room for any gas. So when it is not spewing verbal shit, he has to release gas through his chin anus. Every time it is in the perfect shape of a gaping Anal orifice, that is a gas release.
And MAGA women are lining up to kiss that damn thing, behind Lake, Noem, MTG, and a host of Fox Hos. If Lindsay will move aside for a second.

(19,214 posts)if Trump will actually accept and attend any debate that doesn't somehow give him an advantage.

(1,415 posts)I think Donnie is aware, on some level, of his problem pronouncing words. At his hate rallies, he has morons in the audience who (a) don't know words, and (b) don't care. This time we are watching. And no teleprompter, no speech writer putting his responses together for him, all alone up there with a smart, well-spoken man. I think he will back out, and may even be encouraged to do so.

(15,624 posts)June? What debate in modern history was ever before September?
BumRushDaShow
(131,105 posts)but after all the current year's primaries are done.
FEC primary schedule (PDF) - https://www.fec.gov/resources/cms-content/documents/2024pdates.pdf
There are 4 straggler states and D.C. with primaries on 6/4 (and 2 straggler territories - WI & Guam with 6/8 (D) primaries).
Before the current jockeying for being "early" with primaries, to show a past example, in 2012, you had 11 states that held primaries in August and 5 in September! Some of the decision behind that was to reduce the amount of campaigning/spending for the 2 phases of the election year (notably the Presidential years).
Polybius
(15,624 posts)Why early now? Why not close to the election like they always are?
BumRushDaShow
(131,105 posts)and this year, all the primaries will be done "early".
In the "past", there were fewer states using "early voting" (PA only started "no excuse absentee mail voting" in 2020), so things have "changed", and that was a concern for waiting so late because voters may have already cast their ballots BEFORE a debate happened.
The fact that the DNC had a mostly "virtual" Convention in 2020 due to COVID was a "change".
The fact that one of the 2020 debates was cancelled due to a whiny baby infected with COVID was a "change".
The fact that they are dissing the Commission on Presidential Debates means that the organization has lost any credibility to at least one candidate who happens to be a (D), and that is a "change".
The second debate IS scheduled for September, so that still hearkens back to the past.

Also of sending his criminal goons to desecrate the Capitol building and injuring over a hundred LEOs while fighting like hell as he incited them.
Also of neglecting the COVID response that caused over a half-a-million preventable deaths by first dismantling President Obama's pandemic-response team followed by him knowing how deadly it was but saying he refused to take responsibility for the massacre.
Also of adding eight trillions to the debt... bragging he is the "king of debts" ...
Also of promising a infrastructure week every week that he never delivered.
Also of still refusing to release his tax returns after all these years and being under audit is not a valid reason to hide them.
Also of stealing National-Security top-secret military documents and refusing to return them back to the government...
Also... also... also... (the list of evil wrongdoings is too long to keep track) there won't be enough time in one debate!
liberalmediaaddict
(811 posts)Not because President Biden will do a bad job but because Trump is repulsive to look at and torture to listen to.
Sitting through his 2016 and 2020 debates was miserable.
The upside is Americans tuning in will be reminded just how mentally unstable and verbally abusive Trump is.
Main challenge for Biden will be to stay calm when Trump goes after his son and record as President.
