Leo Brent Bozell IV of Pennsylvania, son of Brent Bozell, the conservative founder of the Media Research Center, CNSNews, and the Parents Television Counsel, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison Friday for his raucous role in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, amid throngs of Donald Trump supporters.
NBC News reported from the courthouse in Washington, D.C., that the defendants father was also in attendance Friday.
Prosecutors had originally asked for 12 years, a proposed sentence which also factored in a terrorism enhancement. As Law&Crime previously reported, Bozell was convicted before U.S. District Judge John D. Bates last fall on 10 counts, including felony obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting, destruction of government property and aiding and abetting, civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. He was also convicted on several misdemeanors including entering and remaining in a restricted building and grounds.
Bozell bashed open a Senate window, joined rioters who chased U.S. Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman and made his way to the Speaker of the Houses office before plowing into congressional chambers, perching himself in a gallery and turning the view of CSPAN camera away from rioters marauding below him. His attorney argued that Bozell had simply made a bad error in judgment when he came to Washington, D.C.

(15,286 posts)Once again a judge takes a sentencing recommendation and cuts it down to a slap.
From 12-years down to 8? Maybe. But 12 down to 3
?
Ive read up on the Bozell family - all of them seditious, lying shits.

(5,338 posts)Well then, let us show some compassion for this person and not make a bad error like he did. Lock his ass up for sedition and treason and throw away the key. If his father even sends his traitorous son a birthday card, haul him before the ethics committee and ask him why he is offering comfort to a traitor.
Like, under oath and on live television.

"Enjoy" your hots & cots!
It should have been longer!
However if he was/is a extra privileged person - prison will not
be easy at all for him. Imho.

(3,089 posts)plus probably a couple of months, depending on if he qualifies for additional credit under a drug program while he's in. But generally speaking, federal rules allow for 54 days credit per year GCT "gain time" (Good Conduct Time.)
"Good Conduct" being the key words there. If he gets disciplinary action while he's in, they can and will take away his GCT credits as punishment.

With a 45 month sentence, he'll have to stay in jail for 36 months (3 years) before he qualifies for parole.

(1,277 posts)If I understand correctly you have to meet certain requirements to own a bar, to run a casino, probably to run a day care. Are there no requirements to run a media company? I understand that while Democrats would be hesitant to enforce the rules the Republicans would use the rules egregiously and for personal gain. But still, surely participating in a coup attempt must violate some standard. Right?

It's not much of a silver lining, but it is there.

[...] This was a political prosecution because my son, Leo Brent Bozell IV carries his father's name, and his father is a known conservative leader who is supporting President Trump in 2024."
Bates was a GW Bush nominee to the federal court (his nomination was on September 4, 2001.)

Can you believe this guy was the founder of the Parents Television Council, whose purpose was to "promote and restore responsibility and decency to the entertainment industry"?

(2,058 posts)and be glad his douchebag son got a sentence almost 3/4 less than what the prosecution was seeking.
And for the tens of millions of Americans who believed the election was stolen without credible evidence to prove it, a big reason that they are brainwashed idiots is because of the right-wing propaganda endlessly pushed by assholes like Daddy Bozell.
Both Bozells can go eat a bag of shit as far as I am concerned.

(23,399 posts)stand until contradicted by video proof of his actions. He should have gotten the maximum sentence. If he hadn't lied under oath and taken responsibility for his crimes, I might have accepted a lighter sentence
