WASHINGTON, May 20 (Reuters) - Three former U.S. foreign policy officials in Donald Trump's administration met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other public figures in Israel on Monday, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
The delegation was comprised of Robert O'Brien, who served as Trump's fourth and final national security adviser, as well as former Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates John Rakolta and former Ambassador to Switzerland Ed McMullen, said the person, who requested anonymity as the trip's itinerary was not public.
In addition to Netanyahu, the delegation met Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid and several other Israeli officials, the person said. Among the main goals of the trip was to obtain a better understanding of Israel's complex domestic political situation, said the person familiar with the visit.
Netanyahu's coalition is beset by internal disagreements, with many Israelis blaming his government for failing to prevent the Oct. 7 Hamas attack. It was a rare case of Trump allies traveling abroad as part of an organized delegation to meet foreign officials. It took place amid strains between Israel and the Biden administration about Israel's conduct of the war in Gaza.

He is a CITIZEN. Not a head of state. How does he have foreign envoys?

(3,100 posts)where *rump is concerned these days. You're right in calling it a government in exile. That's what he's made it. He's no doubt offered terms to countries he likes, providing they help him win back the office, and we have no idea how many times he's sold out our country with stolen Top Secret document copies.
Current congress critters have the right to go on fact finding missions, but I believe even these must be cleared through the office of the White House prior to departure. We've NEVER let just any private citizen represent the United States in a political, governmental format who was not president. And we only have ONE President at a time... and that ain't Trump!
I think he should be thrown in jail for holding these meetings, just my sincere opinion. And do it before he can launch us into World War III!

(16,231 posts)I mean, he's going around his gag order every fucking day and nothing happens. He sets policy by ordering the house to scuttle bills he doesn't want passed, he stole top secret documents and probably sold them to the highest bidder and that's looking like it will never go to trial....why not run foreign policy? Who is going to stop him.
Our system was fine when there was an expectation that most would be ethical. Now, we've got one generally ethical party in the Dems and the staggering well of corruption of the Republicans, which seems to have no bottom.

(70,893 posts)Trump and or his surrogates have no right to negotiate American Foreign Policy with
other nations. You can smell Russia all over this in that Israels right wing is stirring
up shit in order to try to weaken Joe Biden domestically.

(362 posts)Of course Bibi and the Likud are going to be going all out to get Donnie back in the Oval. He'll then let them exterminate the Palestinians, reoccupy the Gaza Strip (rebuilt with our tax dollars) and get ready to push all of the Palestinians out of the West Bank.

(6,700 posts)This is a major violation of the Logan Act:
"The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that criminalizes negotiation by unauthorized American citizens with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. ..
Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable with imprisonment for up to three years."
Israel is a fool if it accepts political visits from nongovernmental entities. It means any of us could dress up in a suit and discuss, negotiate, or otherwise chat up the leader of Israel. You know this is behind the backs of the American people, in a time of WAR where thousands of people have lost their lives in a conflict based on horror. It is a despicable act, unforgivable and illegal.
Of course, they'll say they were discussing the price of peas in May, but Donald will spin it by saying HE has secured a ceasefire, an end to the war that BIDEN started...not true, but Donald is a liar who never stops.
He's running a shadow government. Biden should summons those three people to the WH and question them on what they talked about. Perhaps reinforce their schooling on the Logan Act, with Garland in the room for emphasis.
VOTE! Biden/Harris 2024.

(5,670 posts)1. Deny them re-entry to the United States.
2. If that doesn't work, arrest them upon entry for Logan act violations and unregistered foreign agents.
Enough is enough with these traitorous assholes.

(10,476 posts)I dont know how, but Biden and the DOJ need to put an end to Trumps machinations. Who knows what promises he is making to foreign leaders to help him get back in office. The Arab Americans who have decided that Trump is their friend need to red this article about his cozying up to Netanyahu.
