The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWent to the Grand Opera House here in Wilmington, DE over the weekend.
I had gifted my whole family tickets to see Randy Rainbow! He put on an awesome show! They synced the videos and his performance almost flawlessly. The only complaint (and it wasn't about the performance) was that the dang sound system was SOOO loud - uncomfortably loud. It looked like they just had someone there babysitting the board who was instructed not to touch the settings. My son has done some theater sound work and he said "Mom, when the soundboard slider warning lights are red, it's too loud" Almost every single slider was maxed out.
We ran into some friends there who said the night before they had been to the same place to see Jon Stewart. My friend said he didn't think he'd go see him again. He expected more political/current event talk, and it was mainly about getting old and trials of growing up. The security measures were over the top and if you had to get up to leave to go to the bathroom during the performance, you would not be let back in again. Everyone had to silence their phones then put them in bags that you wear around your neck and they were magnetically sealed. If you had to use your phone you had to get to a security guy to unlock the bag so you could use your phone, then you wouldn't be allowed back in for the rest of the show. As expected, everyone went through standard security stuff like when we went to see VP Biden speak - metal detector, bag check, wanded. Pretty much what we expect now though. My friends said both the early and late shows started about 45 min. late due to the extra measures.
Didn't have those issues for Randy Rainbow's performance. If you get a chance to see him, you definitely should go!
