I had a chance to see him in the summer of 1970 at the Fillmore, but figured I could always catch him later....
On Sept. 18, 1970 he was gone. Worst non-action of my life. I think about him to this day.

(15,182 posts)I saw him in San Francisco back in the day. It was incredible! So many sad losses of magical talent from our youth.

(22,165 posts)come to Pgh a few weeks after his death. I never cried as hard as I did the day I heard he died. I was 18 and a Freshman in college. My friends and I were devastated. Rest in peace Jimi. See you in the next world.

(5,184 posts)I think a girlfriend took the 2nd one. I read several books written about Hendrix with photos. His style impressed me the first time I heard it with All Along the Watchtower, his souped-up hyped-up extraordinaire rendition of the Dylan song. I had heard nothing like him up to that point. And I don't think since then either. Some come close, but he is a one-class artist Great post, thanks.....

(65,289 posts)The vast majority of Jimi pics have him using a rightie guitar.
He died before I started going to concerts. I was barely short of my 14th birthday the day he died.
But, he, Blackmore, & Trower were who made me a Strat player

(3,205 posts)Did he leave the strings as they were or reverse them? I should know all this, as a huge fan (but not a player).

(65,289 posts)...that the light strings are on the bottom.
So yes, he flipped the guitar over, but reversed the strings.
Legend says in his earliest days, he held chord tabs up to a mirror so he could visualize the shape. Don't know I'd that's ever been confirmed.
There are famous lefties who just had the heavy strings at the bottom so the were truly playing upside down. Albert King is a good example. This pic clearly shows the thick strings at the bottom. >>>>> https://www.britannica.com/biography/Albert-King
You can zoom the picture, but you don't really need to. Dick Dale is another examplw.
