(574 posts)1) It came out several months ago that Mueller was coordinating with NY prosecutors, and that state charges were likely to be filed first. If federal charges are brought and Trump pardons, then state charges cannot be filed for the same crimes because it would be double jeopardy. However, if state charges were filed first, Trump could do nothing about it because his pardon authority is at the federal level only.
2) One of the first people who Mueller brought on his team was the prosecutor who brought down the Gambino and Gotti crime families. Looks like Mueller has been approaching the investigation the same way as he would going after any other big name crime family.
Of course, this means that even if Mueller is fired, the Trump and Kushner families, among others, will still be left in financial ruin. Firing Mueller wont stop that. Then what would be left to do is the mopping up the political side with charges like conspiracy against the United States, obstruction of justice, and sedition. And that could encompass most of the GOP.
