(15,055 posts)Not a lot. But there are tens of thousands of mine worker families where mine lore is large even if no living family member works there any longer.
They just don't want to see the past disappear. They want to see it come it come back.
They are afraid of the future because the gop keeps telling them they will get run over by it.
And what passes for an education system reinforces all of that.
It would take a true populist to win. Someone who blames the mine owners and gop politicians for coals collapse with no alternative jobs. No safety controls. No Healthcare. No medicaid expansion. No minimum wage increase. No overtime protections. No wage theft protections.....
Leading with environment. Not so much. Find an ex mine worker. Someone who has been screwed over by the company. The state. The gop. Someone who can resonate with west Virginia's.
We may not like them. But if they vote with us when it counts, they are welcome to caucus with us.
