(27,268 posts)19. My grandfather wouldn't allow my grandmother to go to college.
(He married her right after she graduated high school).
He gave the same reason: he wouldn't tolerate a wife who was more educated than he was.
When I learned that, it really diminished my memory of him.
He died when I was 5.
