When Rudy Giuliani called Joe Biden a "trailer trash little creep," he opened quite a large can of worms. [View all]
Neither man is responsible for the shortcomings in their upbringings, but Joe Biden's seems much more typical of a middle class family that went through a few tough years along the way. This is a topic Rudy G should have avoided.

Biden's father had been wealthy and the family purchased a home in the affluent Long Island suburb of Garden City in the fall of 1946,[7] but he suffered business setbacks around the time Biden was seven years old,[8][9][10] and for several years the family lived with Biden's maternal grandparents in Scranton.[11] Scranton fell into economic decline during the 1950s and Biden's father could not find steady work.[12] Beginning in 1953 when Biden was ten,[13] the family lived in an apartment in Claymont, Delaware, before moving to a house in nearby Mayfield.[14][15][9][11] Biden Sr. later became a successful used-car salesman, maintaining the family in a middle-class lifestyle.

He is the only child of working-class parents Helen (née D'Avanzo; 19092002) and Harold Angelo Giuliani (19081981), both children of Italian immigrants.[31] Giuliani is of Tuscan descent on his father's side, as his paternal grandparents (Rodolfo and Evangelina Giuliani) were born in Montecatini Terme, Tuscany, Italy.[32] He was raised a Roman Catholic.[33] Harold Giuliani, a plumber and a bartender,[34] had trouble holding a job, was convicted of felony assault and robbery, and served prison time in Sing Sing.[35] Once released, he worked as an enforcer for his brother-in-law Leo D'Avanzo, who operated an organized crime-affiliated loan sharking and gambling ring at a restaurant in Brooklyn[/excerpt]
