some curious behavior by the good senator. O'Toole does not belong on this committee for a number of reasons but here are three things that at least raise the appearance of impropriety:
Wisniewski said his curiosity was piqued further still when immediately after the presentation, state Sen. Kevin OToole (R-Essex), one of Christies staunchest allies in the Legislature, issued a news release concurring with Baronis assertion that it was unfair for Fort Lee to have three dedicated toll lanes. Wisniewski found it curious that OTooles release incorporated some of the same obscure E-ZPass statistics cited by Baroni, who told the committee he did not have the statistics in written form and could not submit them at that time.
and....
Sen. Kevin O'Toole (R-Essex) said there was no hurry for the Senate to act; the U.S. Attorney's Office, the Port Authority's Inspector General and the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce are investigating the matter separately. "We should all be very, very careful of drawing conclusions now," O'Toole said before the vote. "I would suggest...that we should wait."
and...
O'Toole's name is mentioned in passing in one of the emails released last week.
Christie's spokesman Michael Drewniak and David Wildstein, the port authoritys director of interstate capital projects, exchanged emails on Dec. 5. Wildstein thanks Drewniak "for all of your sound advice last night, I always appreciate your friendship. Spoke with O'Toole this morning and he will talk with you later today."
Wildstein resigned the next day day.
O'Toole said in a brief interview after the hearing he did not recall that conversation with Wildstein, but added he and his office regularly speak to Wildstein and Port Authority officials to respond to a constituent complaint or questions. He said he did not speak to Wildstein the Assembly's ongoing investigation into the George Washington Bridge lane closures.
"I don't know what that means," O'Toole said of the email exchange.

All very curious.
