Meet the hordes! (WARNING: Cat pic intensive)
So the cats have settled in nicely 6 weeks after the move. Meet the hordes!

Breakfast this morning - from top to bottom: Evie, Socrates, Plato, Quark, Neutrino, Imhotep, and Caesar:

Caesar, aka The King:

Imhotep, aka Lugnut:

Plato, aka Aquatread:

Socrates, aka Herr Snoschou:

Evie, aka Death From Above:

Quark, aka Dave the White:

Neutrino, aka Pink Panther:

Any questions? :D

4. No, she has extremely sensitive hearing
So does her brother Quark, whose eyes are both blue. I asked the vet about that, and apparently that whole white cat with blue eyes and deafness is a myth.

9. All the white cats from that family have very keen hearing
Antimatter (Imhotep's ex-wife and mother of Quark and Neutrino) is white with blue eyes; Mulder and Scully also had blue eyes, and so did Ishka and Voodoo, all spawned by Antimatter.

26. kedrys, these are the most imaginative names I've ever heard for
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:41 PM by Radio_Lady
a horde of cats. A tip of the tall red and purple hat to you and any others who chased a bale of information to name them so uniquely! I would love to hold them all, but I would sneeze so much I'd have to leave! So I will enjoy them virtually -- on my computer!

What do you think about cat competition and the "smashed faces" they have bred into kittydom? I think they look miserable!

30. Thanks!
By the time it came to name the last two outdoor arrivals (we finally caught Antimatter and got her spayed), I told the s.o. all I could think of was Booyah! and Um. :D After thinking about it a few more days, I named them Eddie and Ishka. Eddie turned out to be a girlcat, but the name stuck.

Antimatter got her name because Evie is black with green eyes, and Antimatter is white with blue eyes. Made sense at the time. Her first litter was comprised of Neutrino, Quark, and Tachyon (who lived up to his name by cruising off at the speed of light the first chance he got). Then there was Voodoo, Odin, and Ovni, and finally Eddie and Ishka.

Plato, Socrates and Evie's mom was a calico named Hazard. She disappeared shortly after giving birth; we suspect foul play. We were extremely lucky to find the three when we did.

I don't like the extreme directions some of the cat breeders are taking. As a former geneticist and lab rat, I'm biased towards the hybrid vigor exhibited by mutt cats, and I don't like seeing cats that look like they were bred with defects. It freaks me out.

34. Yes, I was active in dog obedience training years ago.
The confirmation breeders were more interested in beauty than brains or definite problems. Thus, we had submissive wetting in Cocker spaniels, Caesarian sections required in Boston Terriers, because of their huge, square heads. It really turned me off.

My daughter has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and I understand that breed has heart problems. Then there are the hip dysplasia and other bone diseases of the larger dogs. It's a shame, isn't it?

A friend of mine lost a 185 lb dog aged 5. He was the sweetest dog I ever met, and his heart just stopped one day. It really sucks.

12. Brace yourself, it's a long one :)
Caesar will be 14 on Labor Day (approx.), and he moved in with me 12 years ago this past Memorial day. He was given to me by a friend whose mom didn't want to keep him.

Plato, Socrates and Evie turned 4 April 6, and they're littermates. We're pretty sure Imhotep's their dad. We rescued them when they were very small, about 6 weeks, and they've been with us ever since.

Quark and Neutrino are also littermates. They're just about 3. Imhotep is definitely their dad. Quark moved in with us two years ago, and we snagged Neutrino just before the move. She lived outdoors with the rest of the family (including her dad) until then.

Imhotep is about 7 or 8, going on 32. He's had more mileage than most city buses, and just about as many scrapes. We snagged him before the move also. He's put on almost three pounds since he's been here, and has claimed the ottoman as his own, much to Caesar's complete disgust.

37. That's so cool my two cats are brothers.

They were about 3 months old when we got them. The tabby is named Ricco and black cat is Cosmo.

I keep in touch with the lady who was their foster mom. They were rescue kitties from a little of 6. Their foster mom adopted two of their sisters and the other two were placed in seperate homes.

These are their two sisters.

This is their mama some of the kids.

Here they are w/ more of the litter.

That's Cosmo w/ Ricco behind him.

How big are Ricco and Cosmo? They look like they could give Plato and Socrates a run for their money!

I always wanted to raise littermates, but I never thought I'd find myself in the middle of a huge cat family. It's extremely cool. :)

40. Cosmo is the bigger of the two.

Ricco more slim.

Cosmo has turned out to be the bigger of the two.

Both of them have some long ass tails.

Here they are wondering what to do w/ my new Ipod.

They like to fight, but this is how they end up. All lovin' on each other.

This was when we first got them. Cosmo is always the first to the eattin' bowl.

Socrates weighs 20 pounds, and Plato 18. I had no idea they'd get so big. I keep telling them that when we found them, they were the size of their heads. :D

Evie is somewhat petite at 11 pounds; she's a little brick.

They've been glowering and hissing at each other ever since Imhotep moved in...but since Caesar has no claws and Imhotep has no teeth, and neither one has, um, other standard equipment, well, I'm honestly not sure where to put my money on this one. :D

And even small amounts of dry kibble. We were really concerned about it, but his new vet is extraordinary. He's FIV+, and prone to opportunistic infections; the vet said his mouth was so infected, it might actually kill him. She took his teeth out 3 weeks ago, and he's put on 3 pounds since. He's a happy guy, and his breath is no longer apocalyptic. :)

Imhotep is 7 or 8. Plato, Socrates and Evie turned 4 in April, and Neutrino and Quark are coming up on their third birthday. Neutrino's the most easy-going of the bunch, oddly enough. I think she's just glad to be reunited with her brother and her dad. :)

41. It sorts of sneaks up on you
I had two when the s.o. and I met - Marble and Caesar.

Then we had five when we rescued Evie, Plato and Socrates.

Then we had six when Quark moved in with us.

Then we had five when Marble passed away late last year.

And now we have seven since Imhotep and Neutrino became indoor cats too.

I'm so outnumbered, it boggles the noodle. But it's worth it. :)
