it's going to be hard to hold them accountable when they are only doing what government rules and regulations allow them to do. we've known about this since, what, the 1980s? maybe earlier? and we have not elected the people and passed the laws to move to renewables on a large scale. we shouldn't need the fossil fuel industry to tell the truth. we know the truth.

the fossil fuel industry has played a role but they are only 1 link in the chain. even today the people of this country are whining about how we can't afford meaningful change even as we spend billions every year cleaning up after hurricanes, tornadoes, massive blizzards, and no one will even sell you home insurance in Florida anymore because the insurances companies are getting their asses handed to them on a platter. We can't afford NOT to make massive changes in how we create and use power.

This case will probably take at least a decade to litigate and Nessel will likely have moved on to something else by then. I find it hard to believe much of anything ever comes of it unless she has a successor that picks up where she left off. But even then how are the fossil fuels companies going to be held responsible when they slap a book of on the table and say "here are the EPA regulations that we all follow. Sorry the planet is fucked up but we followed the laws your leaders gave us."

We are waiting for that miracle that shuts down climate change without any cost to us. Placing blame on fossil fuel companies won't solve the problem. Their assets are in the ground and in refining, transporting, and marketing those assets. Any money they pay towards fixing the problem will have to come from burning even more fossil fuels.
