... I hope you're right. But looking at it from another angle, he's the perfect foil for Biden: A blithering idiot and a traitor, consumed with malice and vengeance, who can barely form a complete sentence. It'd be like shooting fish in a barrel to take him down in epic fashion.
A last minute replacement for him might be less unappealing to fence-sitters, and bring anyone-but-Trump Republicans back into the fold, so to speak. Without the horrifying specter of another four years of the Gangrenous Boil on the Ass of Humanity wreaking unholy havoc on everything and everyone on the planet, it could be a much closer race.
Something to consider. Now, somehow I feel unclean for even thinking that. Ick.

Or if he dies.

I do not doubt that behind the scenes plans either are being drawn up or already in place. That being said the Republican Party has no moral code and will do nothing should he be convicted and jailed. Of course that would kickstart a “constitutional crisis” which mean the RW hacks on the SCOTUS would have to rule. Imo, they will probably say that such convictions are not a bar to running, being elected and becoming president by a 5-4 vote.

So, we must retake the house and pour money into senate races. Impeachment once Congress is in session would be required should the Velveeta Vulgarian be elected.

Do not think that there is a bottom to RW depravity. There isn’t.

Beyond that be guided by the theory of paranoia: Just because I am paranoid that does not mean they are not out to get me.

he was a heavy labor supporter who started as a democrat and eventually became a socialist. He got 3.4% of the vote. Just mentioning because there is precedence for being able to run from jail.

For those of us who are more left he is a giant in the history of labor in this country, no matter what one thinks of socialism as a system (his own wife did not agree w/him!). Anyway, notable and on point history - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugene_V._Debs

(and I must say, Donald Trump is no Eugene Debbs - he is actually the very opposite from my point of view)

I have no doubt that the RNC will not allow another name on the ballot with an (R) next to their name.
The grift is too much to allow that.

but there is no mechanism to remove him from the ballot, he has enough delegates already to win the GOP nomination. And even if he is jailed, he and his family and other assorted grifters will ensure he is nominated at the convention.

So other than him keeling over from a fried chicken and burger with cheese induced heart attack, or falling out of a window ( Putin has another stooge ready to take over ), I don't see him withdrawing. His only chance to stop the prosecution is to win the election and pardon himself even from state convictions... and watch the SCROTUS declare that this is within his new dictator for a day ( or so ) powers.

I think if he is convicted he will lose. I hope that even if not convicted he will lose. I hope he loses bigly enough that his MAGAts won't even show up at any rallies and that his House and Senate GOPers give up whatever new plan they have to steal the election.

But other than death, he will be on the ballot and then try to steal it after he loses.

Chump can withdraw his candidacy before the Party nominates him. It doesn't seem likely that he'd do that, unless he becomes so incapacitated that he CAN'T run.

Maybe Malaise is onto something.

He already wears a diaper and shits his pants and farts constantly... he should have retired from politics, begged Biden for a pardon ( like Nixon did ) and handed the business to his children... and played ( and cheated at ) celebrity golf. But he didn't.

It's difficult for me to rule anything out (beyond besides acts of honesty or good will) he would or will do. His stay in the race would surprise me about as much as hearing his excuse why he's dropping out; both seem stupid paths for him to take, so maybe he will.
