Can't see the northern lights?

We live in Seattle... lots of ambient light. We weren't seeing anything - then my daughter read that a phone camera may be able to see things your naked eye cannot. Her phone is a lot newer than mine, and she was able to take photos of the lights. So was my fiance. Pretty cool, better than not being able to see them at all anyway.

Long streaks of white extending from the northern horizon all the way over my head. Shades of green and red. Best ones I've seen since I was five years old.

Your phone has a wider sensitivity. You will capture purple and other colours. We witnessed them in the Orkney Islands last Christmas and it was gorgeous! But the phone camera shots were even more spectacular.

Here are two shot (kind of blurry, but I was not being sharp and careful)

Funny story... My wife and I were already in our robes and relaxing by the fire with the tele on. The at 10:30pm a loud knock on the door. Russ, the neighbourhood carpet fitter and amateur photographer was banging. "Come out now, it's the lights!" So we rushed out with him. And there we all were - half the village in our evening wear, standing out in the freezing cold with cups of tea and coffee (us with martinis - lol) until around 2am.

My bones seemed frozen for the entire next day! But it was glorious.
