Holding firm on DACA may help Democrats take back control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 elections.
There are 142 congressional districts that have Hispanic populations greater than the national average, about 18 percent. ==> 52 of those districts are currently held by Republicans. (Among those 52 GOP-held districts, 18 are already rated as competitive by the Cook Political Report.) ==> In 21 Republican-held House districts, the Hispanic population tops 30 percent. A poll this week found 87 percent of people wanted the Dreamers to stay provided they met requirements such as working or going to school. This is an unusually high percentage of agreement in a nation that is very divided politically. Supporting DACA is a winning issue for Democrats. Standing strong will solidify and excite their "base" of supporters and increase turnout in this year's elections. Plus there is this bonus: holding firm on DACA avoids giving Trump a "win" which he so desperately wants. Democrats must not give in on DACA no matter how long the shutdown stays in effect.

1. I agree 100 % and I see another reason for it too
On top of all the points you make, there is also the fact that this clearly signals to the GOP that we will no longer be bullied and capitulate every single time. Repubs have gotten used to the fact that if they hold firm, we dems will be the "responsible" party and give up. This tactic has worked for years. Friday evening, McConnel was shocked because he was expecting the dems to fold.
voters do not like to vote for people who fold at the first trouble. They want their representatitives to fight for them. |

6. Yes I totally agree
That is a very important point. We will be stronger by standing strong.

2. "MAY" HELP dEMS ??? HA ha ha ha ha .... the word is WILL help Dems. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
MAY HELP .... sounds almost defeatist to me. THE WORD IS " WILL" take over.
And I feel will take over BOTH houses. Representatives AND Senate. And this is why, MILLIONS OF WOMEN ARE PISSED. Remember the 1970's Mr. Trump ?? You're going down. |

5. Kind of off topic but
Love this song. Feminism in the 60's and 70's was so awesome. Does my heart good to see it so strongly displayed today.

7. In the 201?
Are you talking about the North Jersey area code? ALl of the reps in the 201 area code are Democrats.
(One's in a swing seat and was first elected in 2016). |

8. I'm always going to vote for the Dem, but I'm even more inclined to do so if..
..they show some backbone and make me believe it's going to make a difference having them in control.
