General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forumsi have spent the morning talking to parents of Douglas High students
who have kids that were on lock down, who tried to help fellow students from bleeding out, who know kids in critical care or worse. Now it is personal. I have been arguing for a ban on ARs and assault weapons all along and now I am seeing the gunsplainers on here start to appear.
No we don`t have to compensate owners of assault weapons if we ban them. That is NRA propaganda. No there is no need to allow for weapons of war in the civilian population and NO I DON`T WANT DEFENDERS OF OWNING AR15S AND OTHER ASSAULT WEAPONS IN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Those people can go to hell.

(50,815 posts)Get this message out to the media if you can. Tell them that the midterms are coming and no amount of NRA money donated to politicians is going to change how angry Americans are going to vote.

(2,176 posts)But I am afraid of my gun owning neighbors who use every Sunday to target practice. I am afraid of nephews I have that own too many guns for any one person. I am afraid of gun owners and I dont see them as good guys anymore. Im sometimes afraid of my husband who owns a gun and Ive told him so. I simply hate the stinking things.

To everyone on DU: Keep in mind that more innocent people in the last year were killed in accidental shootings than "bad people" were killed by folks using guns to defend themselves. The conclusion we can draw is that the total effect of flooding our nation with guns is more deaths by accident. More guns equals more killing, not less.

(22,908 posts)I married a man who has hunted his whole life and owns around 30 or so rifles and shot guns...he collects Belgian made Browning shot guns in particular. Hes not a gun nut and he is responsible with his weapons. They still make me nervous. Theyre a fact of our life after 30 years together. I should mention that when he isnt using them to hunt or shoot trap and skeet, theyre locked in a gun safe. That said, I dont want to keep quiet anymore about how I feel about this issue. Doing nothing about gun violence because it is hard isnt an option for me for one more day. I just joined Moms Demand Action this morning. I told my husband that I expect his support.

I felt like donating so that each of the gun lovers here would have exactly 17 hearts ( I gues it would be 18 now)

(556 posts)Pick a date in cooperation with all of these parents whose kids have been there at one of these shootings, their children and gun control advocacy groups and their supporters for a sit-in in the congressional offices of every single Republican who won't ban assault weapons or prohibit mentally ill persons from having weapons and we SHOULD NOT MOVE until they DO SOMETHING! Those Republican congressman and senators, ALL BOUGHT AND PAID FOR by the NRA will not do anything unless we put ourselves in the way and DO NOT MOVE. I am tired of lunatics bought and paid for by the gun industry who care more about campaign funds than they do about even their own children having more say than 80+ % of our citizens. It is HORRIBLE. Does anyone have connections to organizations that support gun control to start this?

(63,272 posts)arrested, I bet Republican congresspersons and senators would do that to the families of murdered children if they protested--but it would be a PR disaster if they did, perhaps even worse than when the disabled protesters were brutally manhandled and arrested.
