1. Shutting down the government didn't work, and

The court postponing the deadline took the pressure off.

2. It's hard for them to do much with their current lack of power.

Last time they shut down the government for it, and it hurt their popularity. Any attempts to renew DACA have required the Republicans adding full border wall funding. Since there's no way we'll agree to that, it's sort of been put on the backburner until we have more power in Congress.

3. gop, with help from media, succeeded in framing the narrative

with government shutdown it was billed as illegals vs military and we got burned. Just my 2 cents.

4. If I'm being cynical, it's because they don't really want to do anything.

This way it stays a campaign issue for them. And then, given the majority, they could actually pass the bill.

But that's actually the best-case scenario. The courts have stepped in and right now, no DACA recipient is being deported. So the urgency is less. And maybe, in the majority, they can craft a bill that doesn't involve a border wall.

5. I don't think that the Democrats should do anything to help the GOP leverage right wing bigotry

DACA is in place for now. It's as much as President Obama could do while in office, and Democrats have even less power now.

Hispanics need to register and vote for people who will advance comprehensive, immigration legislation that doesn't leverage bigotry.

Some are saying that their young allies will lead the way. I have yet to see it. In Illinois, only 3% of vote eligible millenials voted in the primary. That's not going to do it. Perhaps this next post-Parkland cohort will be different.
