There were periods in American history (most of it) where black creators had to give their work to white performers for it to get out there - that is pretty lousy; I'm not saying that the stones performance wasn't good; but it shouldn't have been the only one that white America would accept. And it was for a period of time.
And we still live in a culture that allows white creators several more failures than it allows black creators.
