Wall Street Journal: The clock is ticking for special counsel Robert Mueller. With six months to go until Novembers midterm elections, Mr. Muellers investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign will soon run into a dead zone of sorts, in which former prosecutors say they expect him either to wrap up, or lie low and take no visible steps until after the election.
Though Mr. Mueller doesnt face any specific legal deadline, the fall midterms amount to a political one, according to experts and prosecutors. He will reach a point this summer when Justice Department habits dictate that he will have to either finish his inquiries or go dark and stretch out his work until past November so he doesnt appear to be trying to sway voters decisions, which would be at odds with Justice Department guidelines for prosecutors.

(21,916 posts)...Trump will be charged with all kinds of federal and state charges. He'll spend the rest of his miserable life in litigation and jail. Since he really isn't that rich, he'll impoverish himself-- and his families-- trying to defend his idiotic life.

(108,925 posts)That would mean not to expect anything after the end of August. We've still got all summer.
Plus, Manafort's cases are rolling along.

(31,802 posts)Special counsels go at their own pace and will ignore guidelines if they want. In 1988, four days before the November election, a special prosecutor raised charges against Caspar W. Weinberger, who served as Secretary of Defense under President Reagan, about the Iran-Contra probe. The charges appeared to contradict statements made by George H.W. Bush who was running for re-election at the time. Bill Clinton used the charges to claim he was running against a culture of corruption.

(34,661 posts)WSJ/GOP would like that to happen. Just the Virginia Trials will go until next year.

Gotta take that high road because nothing is more important than the dictates of DC Beltway decorum.

(21,424 posts)with congress being run by complicit traitors there seems to be little point in flushing ll his hard work down the toilet just so congress go say "meh" and refuse to impeach. if the dems controlled congress drumpf would likely have already been removed and be on criminal trial right now but we are stuck with this shit for a LONG time to come because of congress
