McCain urges Senate to reject Haspel's nomination

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) came out against Gina Haspel, President Trump’s nominee to be CIA director, on Wednesday after her confirmation hearing in the Senate.

In a break with President Trump, McCain urged his Senate colleagues to vote against Haspel, charging that "her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying."

McCain said Haspel in speaking to the Senate Intelligence Committee failed to address his concerns about her role in an enhanced interrogation program during the George W. Bush administration. The methods used in that program are now widely regarded as torture.

Haspel cannot afford to lose any additional Republican support. McCain is recovering from surgery related to his brain cancer in Arizona and was not expected to be present when the Senate votes on Haspel's nomination. With McCain out and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) opposed, Haspel still needs support from at least one Democratic senator as well as every other Republican to be confirmed.

1. "... are *now* widely regarded as torture."

Why do so-called journalists (and other people full of shit) do that? Pretend that torture wasn't always torture and everyone knew it was torture though they (Bush Inc, the enablers, supporters, and the complicit) lied and claimed otherwise?

Saying "now widely regarded" makes it sound as if America simply didn't know. When that is nothing but a self-serving lie.

He promised to do it. Show it live and let viewers make up their own minds whether or not it is torture.

6. I don't support torturing anyone, not even fools who want to do it to themselves in an attempt

to prove torture isn't torture. Not that Hannity would ever go through with it anyway.

Besides, Fox viewers would think it great fun.

I agree about calling torture "torture". How about, If it was meant to be torture, then it is torture? Some people just don't get it.

2. Manchin is already a yes, so she'll probably be confirmed.

I have very mixed feelings. The prospect of who Trump might nominate instead if she isn't confirmed is disturbing. I mean, would the US and the world be better or worse with her as CIA director versus someone like Devin Nunes?

And they should question her if she knows they're using torture on people outside this country from hiring people (mercenaries)to still use it against another country's leaders opposition (Saudi). She'll do anything she wants without consequences if she's allowed to fill that position, and with the rump protection racket protecting her.
