(593 posts)Becoming a bit sour on the "bombshell" term seemingly always being used. Until something sticks I am not sure of anything these days. Agent Orange, I fear, is as close to as being untouchable as one can get. I have hope that he will go down but that hope is fleeting

(13,520 posts)Essential Consultants LLC and all the slimy nasty delicious CASH MONEY flowing in from Novartis and AT&T ETC. and, in one instance that we know of, flowing out to one Stormy Daniels,
and if not for Mr. Avenatti, we wouldnt be looking at old cspan footage and seeing Viktor Vekselberg wandering into Trump Tower for a - presumed - meeting with Michael Cohen, eh?
So if Mr. Avenatti says theres recordings, well then, OH HELL YEAH.

(62,444 posts)WSJ: Cohen paid porn star through private LLC created just weeks before election

...
The company, Essential Consultants LLC, was reportedly created in Delaware -- which offers a higher standard of privacy to business owners -- by attorney Michael Cohen, according to the Journal's report, which cited corporate records and people familiar with the matter.
The Wall Street Journal first reported last week that Cohen had paid the former porn star, Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels, $130,000 in exchange for her silence about the alleged encounter. Following that report, Cohen said in a statement that Trump "vehemently denies" any encounter between the two.

(62,444 posts)He represents Daniels in the litigation over the hush agreement taking place in California (and currently stayed until at least the end of June).
He had requested to intervene in the matter of the Cohen search warrants in order to prevent disclosure of material which Cohen may have had in relation to his dealings with Daniels over the hush agreement. At the request of the US prosecutors, that motion to intervene has been held in abeyance (i.e. not acted on by the court by agreement of the parties).
People are understandably confused about what role he has in the Cohen investigation, which is primarily to get his hands on things that prosecutors have known about for a long time, and to publicly disclose them, while seeking to avoid disclosure of his own client's communications held with Cohen.

(2,129 posts)Is because the judge told him to make choice- stay off TV or be part of the case. Mike got into trouble with the judge for what amounts to pre judging Cohen. And Mike, being the wise person he is, decided that being on TV is more advantageous to his client than digging through the FBI's Cohen records, backed down. He does know that Cohen made a lot of recordings of conversations, and Trump is on one of them. MA's interest is if Cohen and Trump were talking about Stormy, or the payoff, or possibly another woman to whom Cohen made a payoff for Trump. If there was anything like this, it would make his case for Stormy a slam dunk. And open other doors for other women who Trump paid for sex. Plus, it would clear the way for a clean release from the NDA, which is already on shaky ground.

(9,670 posts)Then I have no problem with a liberal attorney forcefully and efficaciously broadcasting a distinct counterpoint to Trump's mendacity. We don't just need Michael Avenatti's fire to charge us up; we need countervailing voices to offset the deluge of lies and fabrications from the right.
Time will tell, but I think Avenatti's allegation that Trump has been captured on at least one audio-taped conversation with Cohen will be born out by the evidence.

(37,648 posts)One way he would know that is if Trump's lawyers asked for any communications directly with Trump be identified to be reviewed for privilege, and Cohen's lawyers or the state's lawyers provided a list which included one tape recording.
If that's privileged information, he's in trouble. But maybe only the substance is privileged, not the fact that there is a recording.

(13,386 posts)Cohen was his lawyer. Cohen had tapes and he was on at least one of them. This is not surprising and it certainly is not a bombshell. How do we know the content of the tape isn't something mundane like drawing up some legitimate paperwork?
I am not trying to defend 45. I am trying to temper expectations. The possibility exists the tapes contain nothing illegal regardless of how much we want.

(42,659 posts)he won't tell ... and I doubt it's either of those sources. I think he's probably heard a piece of testimony or press conference where someone let something slip that everyone in America missed, but Avenatti drew the implication logically and put 2 and 2 together. Again.
