Ted Cruz is not without a base of evangelicals, texas nationalists and other far righters still, and would only be more beholden to Trump for having no appeal beyond that base. And Trump would do it simply because it would be met with such disapproval.

The Republicans would be happy to get rid of him.

He's very, very bright guy. I've seen him argue before the SCOTUS. He knows his stuff. I think most everyone agrees he knows his stuff. He just comes to the wrong conclusions. So probably even the ABA would be hard pressed not to give the nomination.

That said, I don't think he'd accept the appointment.

He got very close to the Republican nomination and probably would have beat Hillary (based on the fact that Trump is fricking insane and still won; Cruz is a putz, but smart and sane).

He still has his eyes on the big chair.
