Apparently in Stevens Point WI biking home from work is a crime. No apologies.
This is a post from Dre Bates in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Took place in our Downtown..He is a young local rapper and bartender at Brickhause Tavern and he has done a couple benefit shows for our local Greens. Think about this for a hot minute--
---------- I’m gonna start this post off by saying I respect police and all that they do but tonight was complete and utter bullshit. I’m biking home listening to music when this cops pulls right in front of me and yells at me to get off my bike, I start off by asking if I did something wrong...he replies by saying “that’s what we’re figuring out” pats me down, asked if I had a gun, takes off my backpack and then 3 squad cars pull up...they dump my back pack on to the street grab my wallet out my back pocket and go through it. One officer ask where I was coming from...I tell him work...he tries to call but we have no landline so we’re just standing there waiting...another cop ask me if I had drugs...I tell them no and to their surprise no drugs or gun...he then tells me I match a description of the person they’re looking for...so I say “what black!?!” Not only did they violate, strip me of my rights, but also did not info me of what was going on they did whatever they wanted without due process...they assumed that because I was black that some how I had drugs and a gun...Stevens Points finest ladies & gentlemen...apparently in America biking home while being black from work is a crime. No apologies. No professionalism. No respect. The worst part is the only thing that went through my mind was how all it takes is for me to be black to become a prime suspect in something I had nothing to do with. Please share this post. There’s so much injustice in the world and to be coming from work and be harassed by police definitely doesn’t make me feel safe.

1. hope it goes viral
the cops owe him an apology. It is always - fits the description - and they get off. Chief needs to explain why he was not shown respect.

2. Typical of College Town Cops.
Biking while Black. Used to be Biking while Native American. Worthless Cops end up in Small Town Amerka.

3. He should ask for a copy of the police report and suspect description.
Hope he had a helmet on and, if it was dark, lights on his bike - any minor violation is an excuse to dismiss this.
