(snips)
The tariffs President Trump has slapped on imports from foreign countries ó including duties on $200 billion of Chinese goods announced Monday ó are almost certain to raise costs on homeowners in the Carolinas hoping to rebuild and refurnish after Hurricane Florence.

While prices naturally rise after a natural disaster, given the spike in demand for building materials, Trumpís trade war has already boosted costs for imported plywood and lumber, which jumped 30 percent in the six months after the Trump administration announced tariffs on Canadian softwood timber in December.

In addition, Trumpís tariffs on Chinese imports have boosted prices for furniture, washing machines and other appliances, and the president late Monday announced an additional 10 percent tariffs on a range of Chinese exports, which could increase to 25 percent by the end of the year.

Why do Republicans always punish Americans having the least voice and lowest incomes? Because they don't care and poor people are not their sugar daddy.......

1. Of course it will, he never thinks of the most vulnerable among us

He's proved that over and over again. No one needs to secretly record him saying he only thinks of the 1%, he's never pretended otherwise.

2. I don't think Trump would have been elected if.....

more voters had known about the extent of his cruel past in dealing with property renters and small construction contractors.

We're all going to be paying for this fiasco for a long time (paybacks are hell) and I'll be surprised if Christmas sales numbers are not down this year. It would also seem to hurt the bottom lines of his buddies at Lowes and Home Depot from lower sales due to increased costs of lumber and appliances.

............

3. He's not all that fussy about who he hurts as long as he's still making money

I wouldn't put it past him to throw anyone under the bus, he has no loyalty except to himself, more's the pity for the American people. I still think he only ran as an attempted money making scheme. No one would lend to him and he was desperate. I just can't believe so many people fell for it and probably he didn't either!

4. Rhiannon, I suspect our addiction to commercialism is killing us...

as Americans nowadays seem so easily led around by our noses to buy or believe anything, as if we jump from one "feel good" to the next.

What happened to the good old days when we achieved most all our personal satisfactions through direct human interactions, nature, the arts, and lots of reading and open-minded debating to expand our intellect?

Republicans and their plutocratic funders appear to want Americans to be fiercely independent and individualistic, which makes us very easy to influence and control. That, in my view, is a very dangerous path for us to take and it's difficult to reverse.

Thanks!.......
