The love of my life fell ill last week and ended up in the hospital.
We planned on bringing our baby boy to the polls together today.
Over the weekend I made three trips back and forth from the hospital to the Supervisor of Elections office in order to get proper documentation, affidavits, signatures and ballot. She was hospitalized one day to late for the more simple process to be used. It was one of the most painful weekends of my life as all I wanted to do was hold my wife. All I wanted to do was hold my wife. All I wanted to do was hold my wife. All she wanted to do was vote. I gave up time with her, my job, and my son in order to fulfill her wish. I delivered it directly to the Supervisor of Elections office and they accepted the signature on the spot. Said it wasn't being sent "upstairs". I broke down in tears. Her ballot was straight D. This morning I went with my son(21 months) to vote. We did so with heavy hearts. Truthfully, my son just misses his mom, he is not allowed where she is at, and only comprehends that she all of the sudden wasn't around. That is the burden of his pain. We have no clue as to her future but do know her wish has been fulfilled. While the process took a considerable amount of time and was a pain, I can see the reason for each step they had. I want to thank the Supervisor of Elections office staff for how helpful they were. At every step. On the phone. In person. And to me as a human being. I never break-down. I fell to the floor in tears at their office. They held me. They comforted me. I just wanted to be with my wife. Go Florida. GOTV Have a good thought for my wife. She is young and strong.

12. That shows how precious that vote is to people
makes you wonder why anyone would pass up the chance to vote.
Hopes for her recovery. A few years ago a friend suddenly took ill. His wife called me to get an absentee ballot to him so he could vote. That was utmost in his mind. It was Obama's first run. He voted and I took it to the auditor. He did die shortly after the election. His wife said he was so thankful he got his vote in. |

14. When your beloved wife feels better, here's an idea...
I bet you could get help from your US Rep to start a hospital voting rights initiative, wherein sudden illnesses and accidents wouldn't hinder Election Day voting. People vote in churches, schools, and random warehouses (think Dodge City). Why not hospitals? Surely, if Medicare consultants can conduct sign ups and plan choices by visiting patients, poll workers could do the same.
Here's hoping your family is back home together very soon! |

Hug her,hold her close.
While working at the Polls we actually had a man brought in a cot. The RescueSquad wheeled him right in. We also had many on walkers from Nursing Homes. We helped them fill out a Provisional ballet because of the change of address. Saw a woman in Texas this morning with a Beto signed shirt. On oxygen and in a wheelchair, told the Reporter,”We have a chance to make our Country decent again!” She was crying. |

36. OMG.
I hope your wife gets better soon.
This gave me chills, because I have a similar story. When Carter was up for reelection, my husband landed in the hospital with a nasty compound fracture to his leg. They were worried about infection. He was in a cast and he did not work for six months. It was the day before the election. I walked into the County Clerk's office with my baby and begged for an absentee ballot. They gave me one. I drove the the hospital. Then I drove back to the courthouse with his ballot. All those trips took about three hours and put about a hundred miles on my car. They did let my fourteen month old daughter in to see her daddy. And he got to vote. Too bad we got stuck with Reagan for so long. I hope your love has a speedy recovery. That is the important thing. |
