I cannot imagine even one of these radicals being in my family or proximal to me or my family's existence. But there were dozens now displaced out of office and what's more, several of the Chairmen of the Committees and many of the members are and were right out of the early 1930's German Playbook. I'm sorry, I lived through the tail end of the McCarthy era and this is worse in many respects.

(16,613 posts)It seems that we have known for decades (centuries?) that non-proportional representation, especially when aggravated by gerrymandering was unfair and was a way to steal the desires of the electorate as a whole. Same for the Electoral College. Same for 2 votes in the Senate for each state, no matter how large/small, populous/uninhabited. Same for non-voting for the territories and Washington, D.C.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we can correct these problems in the next few sessions? It will probably require flipping a few in the Senate.

(31,318 posts)the McCarthy era. My dad spoke to me about it quite a few times.
I have seen the documentary of the Army/McCarthy hearings. They showed it quite a lot during the Watergate era. It should be brought out of mothballs again.

And instead of it diminishing with time it just happens more and more. It becomes less normalized as we all fear it will be.
