David Brinkley has something to say

Current history shows the American people will
put up with a great deal even when the demands on them
are outrageous, as they often are. But they will not put up
with anyone who claims to be or tries to be above the law,
immune to the rules applying to everybody else. It seems
to be known instinctively that if anyone acquires that
privilege it will be the end of this country. The public will
not obey laws they dislike if their leaders don’t.

It appears the White House feeling threatened has
long since pulled its wagons into a circle and lost touch with
what was happening outside. There is every evidence they
were surprised by the degree of public anger at the events
of last weekend. So the President backed down said he’d
hand over the tapes, whereas in the past he argued this
was an intolerable invasion of his privacy. Other people’s
privacy is routinely invaded by the Federal Government
and anyone else who tried to withhold evidence that might
bear on a crime would wind up in jail.

It has always seemed doubtful that Congress could
actually bring itself to impeach the President, but since
Saturday night it has seemed they might face up to it. So
the President because he had to.

I like watching Brinkley as well as Eric Sevareid on CBS. This made up a routine in our family.

Nut at sometimes laws need to be consistent. What happens at one point in time should happen the same way at a later point in time, given the same types of circumstances.

But, I see now as being a totally different set of circumstances.
In the past 6 months - 1 year and more I have seen many references to Nixon, both here and by others - columnists, 'pundits,' former 'this and thats.'
I think they are all wrong to make that comparison.

I hope I AM THE ONE who is wrong.. but I don;t believe so.

We need to play the waiting game. See what these investigations turn up.

...true 40+ years later. 1973 was before FOX. And before the illegal war in Iraq, which the American people pretty much supported. Plus, the majority have always put up with the law being applied unfairly to Minorities, including in 1973.

Not as optimistic as Brinkley is about our character, focus and awareness. Trump in the WH is more like the chickens coming home to roost.

After visiting the Troops, yahoo news sports a headline that says the Troops support Trump on the Wall.

I mean, I really really really do not want to see the tapes. Just get Trump out of there ASAP and let's never speak of the tapes again.*shudder*

Both of us are going to pass on having to watch any tapes. As for 45 his stay in OUR White House has been way too long. Get him out TODAY.
