President Nixon’s former White House counsel explained to CNN Thursday why Donald Trump may be worried about his former “fixer” Michael Cohen’s testimony before Congress next month.

“Michael Cohen has deep knowledge and wide knowledge of President Trump and what happened during the campaign and so we’re finally putting a face on somebody who can talk with authority about these events,” John Dean said after news broke about the attorney’s February Congressional testimony.


Host Brianna Keilar noted that when Dean testified before Congress about Nixon, some dismissed what he had to say as “outrageous” — and the former White House counsel agreed.

“I was attacked not only by Nixon’s supporters and surrogates, I was attacked by Nixon in a number of his national addresses,” Dean said. “The tapes certainly resolved who was telling the truth and I’m not quite sure how it all would have turned out had there not been tapes.”

He then added: “I understand Michael Cohen has tapes as well.”

“I’m sure Trump doesn’t know which ones he does or does not have since it was Cohen doing the taping,” Dean said, adding, “I don’t know how many tapes there are, but certainly there’s no motive for Cohen to lie at this time about his work with Trump.”

Yes, I do believe that Mr. Mueller has copies of the tapes. Probably multiple copies. Why?.. Well, Mr. Mueller is an investigator, and knows that multiple copies of very important evidence is necessary when you deal with crooks like Trump.

WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. raided the Rockefeller Center office and Park Avenue hotel room of President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, on Monday morning, seizing business records, emails and documents related to several topics, including a payment to a pornographic film actress.

As many as 16 mobile phones were seized by the FBI when agents raided Michael Cohen’s home, office and hotel, a prosecutor has revealed.

Thomas McKay, who is leading the criminal investigation of Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, told a judge the law enforcement agency was on track to hand over copies of all seized materials to Mr Cohen’s lawyers by 11 May.

He said the FBI had already turned over the contents of four phones and an iPad, and that the agency had “about a dozen left”, according to the New York Post.

Two BlackBerrys were among the devices seized, suggesting Mr Cohen was hoarding old devices.

I expect anything to do with the Special Counsel's scope of investigation, was probably handed over back to Mueller.

5. This is going to make the fake prez crazier and more dangerous.

Be ready for distractions galore. Pundits have said the shut down may go on forever due to this, and that is just the beginning as the new House Dems subpoena Don Jr, Kushner, Stone, etc. And if it is all on TV his base will begin to have doubt just like Nixon's base did when Dean testified. This is both good and bad news.

Like Nixon it will get down to 20 -25 percent. give or take a point or two. So in a few months, if 18 percent believe Trump, it will be at the low end, and if 26 percent believe Trump that will be at the high end. Those numbers are amounts of the total population that believe Trump.
...As Trump tells more lies everyday, his base will shrink because the lies get stranger and stranger. Trump says he didn't say Mexico would pay, when in fact over and over he said Mexico would pay for the wall. And those news clips of him saying Mexico would pay, are being played over and over again..and again..He cannot and will not escape those lies. Over and over again the media will play, "Mexico will pay for the wall."

...It is a little like a very reliable weather man saying it is going to snow and there will be 10 to 12 inches of snow on the ground. So at 8pm it does start to snow, and it does look like it will add up to a foot of snow. Now you might not like the weatherman, and think he is a jerk and assh**e, but has it starts to pile up, and approaches a foot of snow, maybe he is telling the truth.

In comparison, they play those clips over and over and over, of Trump in front of his crowd, saying Mexico will pay for the wall, and they are played over and over again, then people see that Mr. Trump is lying big time about paying for the wall. And his base shrinks slowly. One person turns to another (even within the base) and says, you know he is lying again. " I can't take him anymore. Too many lies."

... So the base shrinks to 20 percent of the whole population in the U.S.A. The base gets less and less of the total..Of course, it may never get below 20 or 18 percent..That is who are the true believers, but as it shrinks, the country will indeed come together and a very strong majority will want to get rid of the "liar" just as that majority came together to get rid of Nixon...It is much easier to play Trumps lies over and over, because of the video tape...and the Huge...YES HUGE NUMBER.. of lies about the wall that Trump has stated.

One more idea, but it has been said before...Mr Mueller has seen this act before, and is an expert in ending the show. This is not his first play, or his second or his third.. and.......

So Mueller already has everything, we would assume. I just read today that Cohen checked with Mueller about testifying for the Senate committee and he got the green light. But we don't know if he's allowed to share his "tapes" or cellphone evidence. I think that would be determined by Mueller, correct?

Maybe Cohen would bring transcripts of the tapes and that would be just fine by me. There are so many layers to this Trump/Russia mess and right now they're only looking at what Cohen did during the campaign and maybe during the transition. So much more to see and learn.
