I will share that I spent a couple months of my life helping to organize a large community to promote & attend the DC rally called "One Nation 10.2.10"

The rally was announced shortly after Beck's August rally. He spent most of his 9/1/2010 show bashing it.

It was promising to be HUGE! And it was huge, but would have been much larger if the progressive youth hadn't been hoodwinked, imo.

Out of no where, a couple of weeks befor our One Nation Rally, John Stewart & Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central announced their DC rally to be held 10.30.10

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rally_to_Restore_Sanity_and/or_Fear

It was a silly show. I attended it as well.

However, the children of all my friends living in the DC area & their out-of-state friends skipped the One Nation 10.2.10 rally to attend the Comedy Central Duo
,
I lost all respect for sell outs Colbert & Stewart in 2010.

The RightWing went nuts trying to bash and sabotage this amazing rally. Were you there?

I took these pictures with my press pass ☺️

Also found wikipedia. Not a positive post It was an awesome day!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Nation_Working_Together_rally

Ed Shultz spoke at the rally and shortly therafter told democrats to Boycott The 2010 Primary Election which we lost.

The faboulous One Nation 10.2.10 Rally was a battle in the 2010 Mid-Term war, undermined by the very people our youth depended on for "the truth"

Aum Shanti Aum

6. I and my daughter went to the Restore Sanity rally. You're right about the sellouts.

But the signs.

I attended for single payer health care in Lafayette Park across from the White House back in 2007; the major speaker, Dennis Kucinich, was a no-show for another big rally. He always played the "safe" progressive.

I just wish the kids had the opportunity to see all,the civil rights leaders, the union leaders, etc.

You missed a wonderful historic event. Bright blue skies. Shirt sleeve temps. Sadly the mall grass was saturated in several area so crowd pics were deceptive. Most were on dry ground hidden under the mall trees. I wondered ifmthat had been intentional.

There were rented buses that stalled outside city limits, some that just never functioned at leaving many stranded or not able to attend. In short sabotaged. Nonetheless, it was still an awesome gatherimg of very diverse group of nice, well-meaning people.

The park rangers were a bit terse as well. One female officer on horsback scare me!

Good for you attending with your daughter! Perfect.

5. "In The Garden of The Beasts" by Erik Larson, is a great retelling of days before Hitler's triumph.

Simultaneously fascinating, subtle and brutal fiction of the Dodd family's life in Berlin during the crumbling of democratic Germany.

It includes Ambassador Dodd's famous speech.

Erik Larson is an AMAZING writer. I had the privilege to see him when he was promoting Isaac's Storm which is a totally amazing book if you have any interest at all in climate or weather. And unless you live 100% of your life underground, you should care.

Oh, and since I'm on the subject, another amazing book about weather and a specific storm is The Children's Blizzard by David Laskin. I also had the pleasure of seeing him speak on his book. Lucky me.

I'm glad I have an influence on people!

If you think you need more book suggestions, PM me.

I keep a book list, which I've done for some years now. About ten years ago I started making comments on the books. Before then I simply wrote down the title and author. The comments have been a huge improvements. If I talking to someone on the phone and want to refer to a book I've read, I now have my impression or take on that book.

I suggest everyone should do the same. Even if you read only one book a month, or less, it is worthwhile.

there's hope.

Go out and buy some kind of notebook. Whatever seems right to you. And the next time you finish a book, write it down. Title, author, and a brief synopsis. Or your reaction to it. There's no right or wrong way to do this. Make it work for you.

What I like best about recording my response to the books I read, is that when I'm speaking with a friend. or talking about a book ere on DU, I can refer to what I've written. It's enormously helpful. When I look back at the entries when I only wrote down title and author, a lot is lost.

Really, more of us should keep such book lists.

Brainwashed people, badly needed something to hate, to blame their problems on, tuned in.

LBJ was right, "give them someone to feel superior to and they will empty their pockets."

"How did this begin? Ok, don’t laugh - Prayer groups."

The 80 year Anti-New Deal/Union busting history financed by the wealthiest Americans can also be found linked above. It is a mind-boggling, complex history to include The now infamous Koch brothers' dad.

I'm amazed any Dems go along with right wing organized National Prayer Breakfast. Obama did not, to his credit. Hillary did if reports are true.
