According to the Mueller report, asking China to get Trump's tax returns is fine, since it's done out in the open. So she says, "China, if you're listening, if you can get Trump's tax returns, I'm sure our media would richly reward you." LOL!
Too funny.
She stressed, though, that the Russian interference is STILL a threat. That we COULD lose because of it. Then she goes into...both sides can benefit from foreign govt interference and hacking, depending on when and which country.
Great interview.

(49,150 posts)suspected wrongdoings that need to be "investigated". Hillary discussed w/ Rachel how she was cleared after 7 investigations and then came the Bengazi-Email 11 hour marathon. Through it all she's taken it in stride and keeps on keeping on.
I'm so proud of her, the Obamas and our Dem leadership. They endure.

Etc.
Hillary was definitely not commenting about Mueller there.

(6,518 posts)If you can't find humor in things, life can be a pretty dreary experience. I loved Hillary's interview tonight. She has managed to keep her sense of humor in the face of fire. Kudos to her!
greyl
(22,990 posts)It was because it was just such a damn true and novel point that resonated. It was indeed a serious, clever point, not quite a joke, even though people laughed at it. If you hear a Trump supporter claim that Hillary asked China for Trump's tax returns, a correct response would be "Not really, here's what she was really doing...".

However, Hillary's sharp point was OF COURSE ITS NOT OKAY, put in such a way that even a stupid conservative should be able to grapple.

(1,459 posts)... that a bad news cycle could tip the whole thing.
Let's at least be realistic about strengths and weaknesses so we don't make the same mistakes again.
A stronger candidate competing against the most disliked contender in modern history would have had greater margins.
At best, she would have squeaked by.
StevieM
(10,499 posts)Democrats are the last party to not freak out about some ones strengths and weaknesses. We didn't know that the FBI and State Dept. IG office would swift boat her the way they did in the final 6 months. And they did it multiple times throughout the race, which effectively redefined her.
We nominated a candidate who at the time of the last election was the most popular politician in America. We nominated a candidate who has sky high poll numbers for about 4-5 years. We nominated a candidate who for many years was polling the best against GOP candidates among the possible Democratic contenders.
She was ahead decisively, according to all the evidence, until a couple weeks before the election. That's when Comey and Putin did their worst. And they did indeed turn the entire election upside down at the end. And that was after they had already done so much damage over the summer.
Without the illegitimate actions that dominated the race we would have absolutely won in a landslide. It would not have been close. And your claim that "at best, she would have squeaked by" is not supported by the facts. It is only propped up by the fact that you are talking about a candidate who has been swift boated, and therefore is more vulnerable to being dismissed in this manner.
The lesson we need to learn here is that ANY candidate we nominated would have been swift boated. They all would have faced a bogus FBI investigation. And that will remain the case in the future.

(1,262 posts)A Form 1040 Individual Income Tax Return filed by someone like Trump would more than likely be filed on paper, not electronically. To my knowledge, IRS does not scan in or otherwise make electronic versions of paper-filed returns. So, in Trump's case, there is only one copy on file with the IRS, and it's on paper. If he has to furnish copies of his 1040 to other tax authorities, like the State of New York, those copies are also most likely on paper, and not electronic.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)But I would think an accountant wouldn't use a software program, like TurboTax, but would at the end of things file electronically, just because it's safer that it would arrive on time and be electronically accepted. The bigger the return, the more likely they'd keep it electronically, I'd think.
Most professionals keep important documents backed up electronically these days.
But you sound like you work in the biz, so I guess you know. I sure wouldn't know how the 1% file their taxes.

(8,885 posts)I think is a key point, and the same point I have made in multiple DU posts. When asked by Rachel if she was concerned that impeachment might backfire on Democrats, she said not if Democrats keep working on and passing legislation in the House, the legislation Democrats were elected to do, regardless of whether the Senate takes up the legislation or not. I think if Democrats do this we will go into the 2020 elections in a much stronger position.

(37,648 posts)That's a lot to do at one time, but I think different committees handle things, so maybe?
