The Kentuky Derby decision was not a good one. It was a rough and tumble race on a wet and sloppy track, actually, a beautiful thing to watch. Only in these days of political correctness could such an overturn occur. The best horse did NOT win the Kentucky Derby - not even close!

(13,397 posts)correctness. So just throw out the rules and allow anything out there, no matter how dirty? Sounds like Trump.

(32,061 posts)It wouldn't surprise me if the owners of the horse who was disqualified are members of one of his clubs, and that's why he's bitching. Or, perhaps one of his near-do-well demonspawn lost money on a bet because of it.

the Derby is a HUGE deal around here. Parades, Steamboat races, etc. for 2 weeks leading up to the Derby. While I'm not a horse racing aficionado its hard to escape the race here. I did watch a replay of the race online from a different angle (not the televised version), which by now is I'm sure easily available if you so desired, and I thought to myself "Hey, he can't do that". Even I , who knows nothing about the rules of horse racing, could see the blatant switching of lanes that occurred. Not only was it extremely dangerous, ESPECIALLY on a sloppy track like it was but illegal and unethical. If it was ME deciding this issue I would have banned not only the Jockey but the owner and trainer from participating in other Churchill Downs events for the foreseeable future.
The outcry from so many just makes me think that we as a Nation do not care one bit if someone cheats to "win". That's what it was too, cheating. Dangerous cheating at that. I say from "so many" because I took a online poll earlier this morning about it and it was 33/66% who thought that disqualification was warranted. It does not in the least surprise me that our cheater in chief found it to be unpalatable.

(9,631 posts)I'd say let the people who are, make that call and respect the decision. When I first saw it I was surprised one or more horses didn't go down. It's why we have rules in these things.

(428 posts)...the mythical "good Republican" who is so rare as to never be seen. I'm not sure if it was just Trump who put him over the edge, but he was definitely a Republican last I had checked. One of those "I'm so persecuted because I am a conservative in Hollywood" types.
But good on him for coming around I guess.

"About that medal of honor I was planning to give you -- I'm giving it to the Kentucky Derby jockey who was cheated instead!"

but your own.
Whether accidentally, incidentally, or on purpose, a rule appeared to have been broken. It was noticed and reported, and based on the evidence, the authorities agreed and administered the designated penalty. I can't imagine why President Duh Donald would have a problem with that...

(6,033 posts)I saw the film.
The rules are plain and were correctly followed.
The lead horse interfered with 3 horses. It's not allowed.
Too bad these stewards don't review elections.
