Remember When Charles Krauthammer (RIP) Said There Were No Democrats Left To Run In 2020?

I always had a love/hate relationship with Charles Krauthammer (RIP). I admired his ability to come back from a tragic personal injury, but also thought he was just dead wrong on a lot of issues. He also suffered from a severe case of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

But this was one of his 'observations' that I'm glad to see proven COMPLETELY WRONG! He claimed that eight years of Obama had lead to Democrats losing 1000+ state legislative seats, and that, as a result of this, the Democratic 'bench' had been decimated. And that the only people left to run in 2020 were 'all octogenarians, or nearly so.' (You can see him say it in the video link below, just after the 1:00 minute mark.)

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/12/28/krauthammer_semi-delusional_obama_said_he_would_win_if_he_were_on_ballot_but_his_legacy_was.html

Well, all I can say is....THAT'S ONE HELL OF A FRONT BENCH we've got!!! Just LOOK at all that young, fresh TALENT! And only TWO of them are 'nearly octogenarians.'

Regardless of who wins the nomination, I'm glad the Democratic Party can showcase THIS MUCH TALENT, and THIS MANY NEW IDEAS! You should ALL BE PROUD OF THIS BENCH! ALL of these candidates, whether they become President in 2021 or not, will be contributing to the Democratic Party talent pool, and the American political discourse for DECADES to come.

Contrast that to the Republican Party, that hasn't had a new idea 40 years, and has been nominating more and more pathetic Presidential candidates every cycle; falling back on political resentment, and downright CHEATING to win. That won't last forever. GW Bush was all hat and no cattle...and THIS guy was all ASSHAT.

Take comfort, folks. The 2016 election was the high water mark for the Know-Nothing Party flood, and the age or rationalism is about to begin anew.

1. I stopped reading Krauthammer when he claimed only two dozen or so artifacts had been looted

from the museum in Baghdad

It was easy to discover that many people, who knew much more about it than he did, had a very different take and that his view was heavily colored by ideology

the crowds in the obligatory examination of whether the Republican Party needed to become more inclusive and thought no. I almost never read him, but I did this and remember his argument for continuation of a segregated white party.

Conservative Hispanic Americans could continue to be OUT-reached, a word they use a lot. His version out OUT-reach to these citizens just called for less vicious treatment of undocumented workers, who, besides being persecuted for themselves, serve as surrogate targets of malice toward Hispanic citizens. That'd be enough for them.

And he dismissed black conservatives with breathtaking brevity, saying they had us and didn't need two parties. (!)

Good riddance.

It's because we don't have have a narrow list, "there are no Democrats to run". There are no main front runners...in theory...so I don't get the DU Primaries people riding my ass...because there are no recognizable, for the most part Democrats running, its a free for all.

Flip side, the GOP benefited knowing who would be the eventual nominee....this time, not so much.

Well, except for the guy who was VP for eight years rather recently.

There are few Dems more recognizable to the general public than Biden. Your assertion is a bit ridiculous.
