Senate Republicans say they'll quash any articles of impeachment against Trump, no matter what the evidence shows.
Senate Republicans have vowed that Trump will face no punishment if the House draws up articles of impeachment no matter what the evidence shows,
The House has yet to begin impeachment proceedings, but if it were to file articles of impeachment, the Senate would then have to hold a trial to determine whether Trump is guilty of the charges and decide whether to remove him from office.
According to a report from the Hill newspaper published Monday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who runs the Senate with a 53-47 Republican majority in the chamber would hold a sham trial that would acquit Trump of the charges, no matter what the charges are or how strong the evidence against Trump is.
McConnell and Senate Republicans "have the power to set the rules and ensure the briefest of trials," and they are already set on the plan of dismissing impeachment proceedings, the Hill wrote.
Hey Cornyn and Tillis, your "guy" in the white house is a traitor to the Constitution just like your entire party................you keep forgetting assholes, that his fucking team met with Russian agents at your convention...................., let me repeat that your "guy's team met with Russian agents at your corrupt worthless convention, and they didn't even have the balls to call the FBI.................have you ever asked the fucking simple question as to: Why they didn't call?...........................nope, not once...............................enabling traitors........................

(110,950 posts)IF they cross their hearts and hope to die, we can still have the enquiry continue right thru the next election? Is that what they want the Democrats to do?

(42,770 posts)the void on airways. Whats difficult is when you have opponents who will just say anything true or false and they know in todays media overload they wIll get away with it.
Meanwhile Dem candidates go through the ringer for a vote from 20 years ago and they oblige and over explain thus extending the news cycle. Its like our side needs a modern media consultant.

(10,848 posts)McConnell probably won't even hold a trial on evidence the House presents. He'll go straight to an up/down vote, then declare victory.

...keep the enquiry going on and keep exposing the facts and subpoenaing the witnesses needed to ascertain the truth. Attack the Republicans who do not cooperate in defending their branch of government.
And who betray their sworn oath to the Constitution.
Kick ass and take names.

(42,770 posts)A vote to change the rules equates to condoning 11 instances of trump trying to get people to break law.

While McConnell is required to act on articles of impeachment, which require 67 votes or a two-thirds majority to convict the president, he and his Republican colleagues have the power to set the rules and ensure the briefest of trials.
I think it would be disposed of very quickly, said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)....
Why on earth would we give a platform to something that I judge as a purely political exercise? said Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), another member of the Judiciary Committee. We have to perform our constitutional duty, but if people think that were going to try and create a theater that could give you the perception that this is a matter that rises to the level of Watergate, thats nonsense.
Tillis said he would support McConnell bringing the impeachment process to a quick close, and that any kind of extended trial would be rewarding what I view as bad behavior on the part of the House.
Me.
(35,454 posts)and frankly the last thing we need is a sham trial to go along with a sham Mueller report.

(99,914 posts)I said this in another thread - it's not wilfull ignorance. It's intentional ignorance. They're choosing to ignore real facts for make believe bullshit. This crisis at the border? They made it up. Climate change? They're distorting facts. Trump's election? They are changing reality and the definition of fact. That's what Trump's "war on the press" is about. They've been living in a bubble so long that rather than accept it, they are trying to change it to meet their definition.

2) Civil War
3) Saudi Arabia uses the weapons that Trump sells them against us.
I seriously hope to god that #2 or #3 never happen. But I really want to see #1 happen. But considering how much Trump is trying to bend over backwards for a country that committed terrorist acts against us...
