Do people know how to use ctrl f ??? If more people did we would get less repeats

of the same stories on here. All you have to do is go to a couple pages, (like General Discussion and Greatest Threads) and hit ctrl F

After you hit ctrl f a search box will appear. Then just type in some keywords to see if the news you want to post has been already posted.

For example I see there are a few posts on the Greatest Page about a judge blocking the closing of the last abortion clinic. Looking under "abortion" just now brought up 16 instances of that word on that page. You could add the word "clinic" to narrow the search down or something like "judge"

I do this all the time and many times I have found out what I wanted to post was already posted.

Here is a page that explains it and some other keyboard hacks.

you can sort the page by start time to see if breaking news has already been posted.

Site search also works well, for the most part (sometimes newer posts don't register).

Sometimes things slip, though (especially if you have someone ignore, or have words trashed).

I do all my computer work on my kindle, my husband in his ipad. I do wish people would look for other stories as the repeats get tiresome. I like to see what people are saying. Even the threads often get repeats within the thread. I know this can happen as many people are adding comments at the same time.

I really don't start many threads, but like to add to others if I feel I have something new to say. I do find many are more eloquent than I am. I use the rec alot, and should probably +1 more often with those I agree with. I am still learning the ropes here.

I know it feels good to let off steam. I add many comments to many threads, re read them, and usually delete them. I have to use steroids because of health reasons, and I do tend to roid rage. I learned early on when I unintentionally irritated people. My sense of humor does not work well if you don't know me. My mom and my husband find me very amusing.

Oops, off topic again. Another reason I don't start too many threads.

Anyways, it would be nice if similar threads were combined. Thanks for pointing this out, and if you have any suggestions for those of us who no longer use control able systems, I would love to hear how.

on any subject. If a subject or story is posted multiple times then more people will find out about it.

.

Sometimes the OP titles differ.

The other day, I submitted one in GD, had 200 views and no replies. Someone else submitted same thing 30 minutes later, while mine was on the front page of GD and got a dozen replies.

Timing is part of when things get replied to, and generally it takes one reply to get the ball rolling.

After all they have learned something and want to share and chat about it. And maybe stroke their own ego.

We aren't writing efficient code. It's more like a busy coffee shop where people are talking about many things, including identifical things.

So yea, we could make people get educated on control F and efficient searches, and make rules about duplicate posts. And maybe they would keep posting. Or maybe not.
