Protesters at ICE facility in Aurora pull down American flag and raise Mexican flag

From the Denver Post:

videos at web page

Protesters upset with the federal immigration roundups that may occur this weekend in Denver gathered Friday night at the ICE facility in Aurora.

The majority of protesters on site were doing so in a peaceful manner. Another group stormed the barriers near the building and pulled down an American flag off the flagpole in front of the facility and replaced it with a Mexican flag.

1. While that's pretty bad optics ... if the people who did so were Latin Americans ...

... it would be relatively understandable.

If they WEREN'T (or if they were conveniently masked) ... then I kinda suspect agent provocateurs.

Could be. But (as evidenced here on this site) there are plenty on this side that are either not interested or not bright enough to understand messaging or optics. Since the right is always throwing shade and nattering on about "false flag' operations and so forth, I suppose we're entitled to our "provocateurs." No?

That would be more whack than woke.

Or perhaps it's a play on the history of the territory, where it was part of the imperial Spanish territory that became Mexico, sort of a MEChA-style approach that wants to reclaim either 17th-century empire borders or some claim about the homeland of the Aztecs before they invaded and subjugated the folks down South.

was part of the Louisiana Purchase from France. It was never part of Mexico.

That's why I think it's hilarious when some ignorant activist starts spouting off about Denver being "stolen" Mexican territory.

Throw in a somber voice over and droning music and you have the Republican's 2020 attack ad against Dems.

All the GOP has to do is add a somber voice over and spooky music to make it complete.

Pulling down US flag, no.

But I know Aurora very well, and this could get seriously ugly in a heartbeat.
