ICE tries to bring man in Hermitage in custody, neighbors form human chain to let them get home

HERMITAGE, Tenn. (WTVF) — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent tried to bring a man in Hermitage into custody, but neighbors formed a human chain to allow the man and his son to get home.

This happened Monday morning in the area of Brooke Valley Drive and Forest Ridge Drive. The man had entered into his van with his son when an ICE vehicle blocked him in.

Over the next few hours, neighbors came out to support their neighbor, bringing them water, gas, and wet rags so they could stay in their van.

<snip>

Eventually, after about 4 hours, the neighbors created a chain to allow the father and son to run into their home. They were able to do so and ICE left.

ICE left because they need a warrant from a judge, and probably don't have grounds to get one. Midnight Writer Jul 2019 #8

Indeed, that human chain would have been laying on the ground suffering a chronic case of bullet holes.

I'm surprised ICE left anyway. Are they powerless once someone gets to their home base? If so, they aren't much of an enforcement agency.

And these raids have been for show, not authorized by warrants.

I’m sure Trump has Steven Miller working on it.

And good for the sheriff, too....
"Davidson County Sheriff Daron Hall says he wants it known that his office will not be taking part in ICE agent activity in Nashville.

"They do not house them here, they do not keep the person here, we're not involved in ICE at all," Hall said. "There's a lot of misunderstanding and confusion about that."

Hall says he adopted a new policy at the Sheriff's office several weeks ago, after President Donald Trump said ICE raids would increase in the coming weeks to remove undocumented immigrants.

"I notified ICE that we would no longer house anyone for what would be considered an 'ICE Purpose' only, they must be a local criminally active person before we would house them," Hall said.

Hoping against hope maybe but what if the ICE raids backfire in some small way, say, they don't see the monster as an anti-government Washington outsider after all. I know. I can dream.
