Mitch McConnell Is Panicking As The Moscow Mitch Label Sticks
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has always been shameless in his efforts to ignore whats best for the country in order to protect his party and his president.
But as the Moscow Mitch label continues to stick to him after he refused to advance commonsense election security legislation through the Senate, he looks to be increasingly panicked.
That was clear earlier on Monday as he took to the Senate floor to defend himself from a chorus of backlash that hes faced in recent days.
On Twitter, the Senate majority leader played damage control, desperately (and laughably) accusing his critics of doing Putins destabilizing work for him.Link to tweet
As Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress, said on Monday, Clearly Mitch McConnell is a bit freaked by #MoscowMitch.Link to tweet

Moscow Mitch doesn't want you to notice the millions he's taken from Russian oligarchs directly connected to Putin.
Moscow Mitch doesn't want you to notice how he fought for lifting sanctions against Russian oligarchs directly connected to Putin.
Moscow Mitch wants you to forget that he threatened Obama and blocked informing the public about Russian interference in 2016.
Moscow Mitch wants you to ignore all the warnings about Russian interference in 2020.
Moscow Mitch wants you to forget that he blocks every bill that is designed to secure our elections from foreign interference.
Moscow Mitch wants you to cry with him over "policy disagreements".

(25,167 posts)Trump likes to stick a person with a nickname that catches on and is used by the MSM. Those labels that Trump attaches to his so-called enemies work for him.
We can see that the Moscow Mitch label for McConnell is working. Now the Dems need to come up with nicknames for other prominent Repugs that will stick to them and be picked up by the MSM.
Think of which Repugs you would like to label with a nickname and suggest some nicknames here.

(267,808 posts)wo former top staffers to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have lobbied Congress and the Treasury Department on the development of a new Kentucky aluminum mill backed by the Russian aluminum giant Rusal, according to a new lobbying disclosure.
The disclosure comes as Democrats are pushing the Trump administration to review Rusals $200 million investment in the Kentucky project concerned that the mill will supply the Defense Department and as McConnell weathers criticism for helping block a congressional effort to stop the investment.
The Russian firm was only able to make the investment after it won sanctions relief from penalties the Treasury Department initially imposed in April 2018 on Rusal and other companies owned by Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch and Kremlin ally accused of facilitating Moscows nefarious activities, such as seizing land in Ukraine, supplying arms for the Syrian regime and meddling in other countries elections.

As we continue to pick apart Robert Muellers findings, and debate the meaning of obstruction of justice, remember his undisputed warning:
The Russians will mess with next years election, just like they did in 2016.

So here is the question we should be focused on now: Why is Mitch McConnell sitting on bills to fortify our defenses?
The simple answer is Donald Trump, and the Senate Majority Leaders subservience. But darker possibilities loom. Well get to those in a minute.

Look a bit deeper, though, and youll find other unseemly explanations -- the perks Moscow Mitch gets from Russian oligarchs with close ties to the Kremlin, who dump money into GOP campaigns and his home state.
Like Oleg Deripaska, the Kremlin ally behind the worlds second-largest aluminum company, called Rusal. The Treasury Department accused this tycoon of aiding Russias misdeeds, and put sanctions on him and his company as punishment for the hacking of our 2016 election.

New pressure on the top Republican in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, who blocked a series of elections security bills despite warnings from Bob Mueller and American intelligence that Russia is still at it. McConnell is furious with his new Moscow Mitch nickname as progressive groups put up billboards in McConnell's home state of Kentucky showing McConnell in a Russian military uniform.

But while McConnell touted his opposition to election-related legislation as efforts to block Democrats from seeking partisan advantage from a crisis, the majority leader also has effectively stuffed a number of bipartisan bills into a legislative drawer.
In a May hearing, Blunt pointed to McConnell as the reason why election security legislation wasn't debated on the chamber's floor last year and wouldn't be this year either.
Stalled bipartisan proposals include the Secure Elections Act written by Republican Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma with Democrat Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota in the previous Congress, as well as Klobuchar's Honest Ads Act requiring disclosure of election ads on the Internet, which is co-sponsored by GOP Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham.
"We were blocked at the Rules Committee," Klobuchar said on the Senate floor Thursday. "This is not about one election or one party. This is about our democracy and our national security."
Lankford has said the window for upgrading election systems before 2020 has closed. Even if new standards and funding are passed to aid states with upgrades for things like paper ballot backups, he said, there's not enough time to put them into effect. Lankford said this week he's still working on a new version of his bill.

(19,917 posts)to reread his oath of office. It doesn't say anything about maximizing his party's control of government through whatever means necessary, but it does say this:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..."
Moscow Mitch is derelict in his duties and betraying his oath of office. Lock him up.
