Now, with #rumptariffs taking a hit, RV sales (Elkhart's #Indiana lifeline) are on a steep decline.

Ole Elkhart, Indiana. The town had 20% unemployment when Obama took office. He visited there… a lot. And with some help (the stimulus) got the rate down below 4%. Now, with tariffs taking a hit, RV sales (Elkhart’s lifeline) are on a steep decline.

1. Are those RV's made in China?

I noticed the same thing here in Florida. RV shops are loaded with unsold vehicles.

4. At least four

used ones along the highway between here and the nearest urban area. Private sales by owners. Expensive to haul and pay taxes on.

7. When you pay more for your supplies, and you have to charge more...

especially when people are also paying more for other things, they aren't going to buy the RV. That is what happens when you take a dull axe into a situation that demands a scalpel. I am not a proponent of tariffs, although I understand that President Obama used them surgically as have other administrations. There are ways to protect an industry that do not involve having a trade war with one of the largest suppliers of both raw materials and finished goods to the US. Trump may or may not know this but he almost certainly doesn't care.

I feel bad for the suffering that this situation causes, but at the same time, their continued support of Trump, as if doing something stupid for the 300th time will certainly fix the problem that the other 299 times did not fix, makes me less sympathetic.

July 31 $40.31

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/winnebago-could-take-a-double-digits-of-millions-of-dollars-hit-from-china-trade-war-2019-06-19

Winnebago Industries Inc. said Wednesday that the U.S.-China trade war will have a “material dollar impact” on results, but the recreational-vehicle maker said in some cases its options to deal with the impacts are limited or just not worth the cost.

Still, Winnebago’s stock WGO, +1.28% swung to a gain of 3.7% to the highest close since Aug. 3, 2018, reversing earlier intraday losses of as much as 4.1%, after the company reported a fiscal third-quarter profit that beat expectations but revenue that missed, as weakness in its motorhome business offset strength in towables.

In the company’s earnings release, Chief Executive Michael Happe said the materials-cost environment remains “volatile,” as newly implemented and pending tariffs resulting from the U.S.-China trade war will start to impact input costs in the back half of 2019.
