A plane crash near Turkey, Texas on Sept. 7, 2019.FAA via NTSB

By Theo Wayt

A Texas plane crash that injured one person was part of a gender reveal stunt gone wrong, a National Transportation Safety Board report said Thursday.

The incident occurred when a pilot flew a crop duster-style plane at a low altitude in order to drop 350 gallons of pink water as part of a gender reveal celebration. Immediately after dropping the water, the plane stalled and crashed, sustaining damage to its fuselage and right wing, the NTSB said. A photo from the incident shows the mangled plane upside down in a field.

The crash occurred outside of Turkey, Texas on Sept. 7.

The pilot, identified as 49-year-old Raj L. Horan of Plainview, Texas, was unharmed, while one passenger suffered minor injuries, the report said. An FAA inspector also noted that it was a single-seat aircraft and not designed to carry two people.

Um, aren't these things getting out of hand?

when my son had one. I thought it was stupid and I still think it is stupid but to each their own. They are certainly getting out of hand. I suspect they were created by a company selling things for them catering to those who think they must tell the world, now everyone seems to do them and the need to be bigger and better seems to outweigh any sense at all.

Ours was a pinata with pink balloons inside.

They had an outdoor party with party food and alcohol. Yeah, that was pretty cool.

At least a crop dusting plane is designed to fly low (maybe not that low) and drop a substance.

carrying a tank of water and releasing it too fast will cause the plane to rise up quickly, and likely lead to a stall.

If the pilot had thought out his plan, he might not be paying for an aircraft now.

Quit killing and injuring people just to tell everyone what your kid's sex is.

..............

It's a heap better than the one a while back where the kid's grandma was killed by shrapnel from an exploding reveal device.

It would be a shame if someone mistook them for people with the kind of judgement one would hope accompanied the serious task of raising a human being.
