(37,748 posts)Hatred is simply the absence of love.
Which then begs the question, how much should we love Trump, and on what objective measure is that based?
Or does self-righteousness allow for such nuance?

(1,275 posts)I see it all the time, right in a liberal town near Boston. From the landlord who owns the triple decker house I live in, to when I work on my laptop in a nearby McDonald's that runs Fox 24/7 and the comments of the DPW/blue collarish people who sit around the tv and watch it, and the political forum on the 'Patriotsplanet' message board, which is indistinguishable from a FoxNews message board.
Even in a state like Mass., 40% voted for Trump and they tend to be the types who see themselves as separate from and sometimes take issue with "the elites". I'd think that a fair percentage (not all) of law enforcement falls in that category.

(1,275 posts)They're just not that educated, get all their news from Faux, and have a lot of resentment over this being a majority liberal state, with "out of touch leftist elites."
I can't tell you how many posts I've seen on the patriotsplanet website carrying on about how people at Harvard can't screw in a light bulb and don't know anything and that they went to Framingham State or UMass Lowell. The political forum there is more hardcare angry right wing than NFL message boards in more conservative areas.

(20 posts)... with Brooke Brothers suits and fine leather shoes on the train platform in the suburbs and on the trains going into Manhattan having coffee klatch conversations about their support for Trump and finding common cause with Trump supporters of diverse economic backgrounds. I can remember in October of 2016 going into work and hearing a woman who was babysitting in Riverdale for wealthy families in the area who sounded just like Jean Stapleton's Edith Bunker accosting three young prosperous men as they got on the train. "Excuse me but I couldn't help but overhear you guys and how you support Trump? Where I work you can't even mention him but I can't wait to vote for him!... Listen I get off here but but..we just gotta get him in...that's what's important" as they all nodded and agreed like folks after church! One of those nights on my return I heard a young professional woman... blazing drunk on the late night train back home ..this time a Bernie supporter angrily screaming "I don't care I hope that ***** LOSES I'd never vote for her she's a ******* WARMONGER!". Another night in an empty subway car in Brooklyn me half asleep, another guy half asleep, a nurse gets on and just start unburdening maybe two days after the election " can you believe this news. I couldn't vote for her I never trusted her. Didn't make a difference in this state. I voted for someone else though.". I remember being spooked enough by those earlier convos to comment about them to friends. I didn't have that sense of doom but right before those last weeks when Hillary was said to be 3- 5% ahead of Trump I said "I remember 1980 ..I'm not going to relax until she's polling 10% ahead!"

(13,855 posts)My 15 year old grandson is probably more activist and leftist than I am. He lives with his Dem Mom, but his Dad is a Trumper and an evangelical, has even told him that evolution is a fake and God put Trump in office.
It will be worth the money to get this for him, and an extra to give my grandson. I live in SC so I won't be putting one on my car because I don't want to get 1) shot, or 2) arrested on a trumped up (pun intentional) charge.

(9,363 posts)And I cannot think of too many people who deserve hate more than tRump. We don't want our kids to be absorbed by the feeling of hate but we also don't want them to feel guilty for feeling it at times either. Like most other things in life, there is a balance.
Why Feeling Anger and Hate Is Good
March 12, 2014 By Beverly Amsel, PhD, Individuation Topic Expert Contributor
I hate you! 4-year-old Carly screams at her mother. Some moms might react by grabbing their daughter and spanking her on the bottom, or screaming, You are a bad girl! or telling her, Thats a bad word, we dont say things like that, or starting to cry and admonishing, You hurt Mommys feelings. There are many ways children learn to think of their angry or hateful feelings as bad even though anger and hate are normal human feelings. Too frequently, families dont differentiate between expressing these feelings through words and acting on them. When families succeed in outlawing feelings of anger and hate and dont teach their children appropriate ways of expressing their feelings, they limit the childs ability to be aware that he or she has these feelings and to use them successfully. These limitations seriously interfere with the ability to become a person who can navigate life and relationships with a full range of feelings and self states."
~snip~
"Many children grow up in families where they learn, consciously and/or unconsciously, that feelings of anger and hate are bad. They may be unaware that they are fighting within themselves not to feel these feelings. As they mature, they are handicapped. They cant know themselves or be themselves or use these feelings to help make choices. For example, they wont be clear that they are being treated badly, or that its OK to compete to get what they want, or, like Frank, that its necessary to say no to help a child learn to accept no and limits.
Children who grow up believing that anger and hate are bad usually believe that if they have these feelings they will DO something bad or act in a hateful or rageful manner. But feelings do not have to be acted upon, or can be acted upon in appropriate and nondestructive ways. If we dont have a full range of feelings available to us, we are at risk of not knowing what we want and who we areand of having limited lives and relationships."

(137 posts)..I would never consider putting something like this on my car. The rabid trumpites don't play by the same rules. These are possible outcomes:
nothing happens, or
car gets keyed
car gets dinged
driver gets pulled over
who knows? rabid trumpites can be creative.
Point being - why do this? it's like daring someone to abuse your car.

(4,281 posts)While in traffic yesterday, I was stopped behind a big-ass pick-up truck that had a bumper (tailgate?) sticker that read:
He Won. Get Over It. Sorry, didn't have my phone ready to snap a photo - and I'd rather not waste precious memory on that message.
What I'd like to see is one that reads:
We're Impeaching Him. Get Over It.
