Looking out the window in our St. Paul, MN living room this morning, I watched the snow fall and the wind blow. In about an hour, I'll be outside, shoveling and blowing that 6-7" of snow off my walks and driveway. Tomorrow, the snow plows will come down our street, and we'll be safe in driving in the area.
I shopped yesterday, so I don't need to go out anywhere, and we're staying home for Thanksgiving this year. I have only this to add:
Winter is icumen in,
Lhude sing Goddamm,
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing: Goddamm.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham.
Freezeth river, turneth liver,
Damm you; Sing: Goddamm.
Goddamm, Goddamm, 'tis why I am, Goddamm,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.
Sing goddamm, damm, sing goddamm,
Sing goddamm, sing goddamm, DAMM.

(182,273 posts)My wife got sick of my elaborate tarring system for our old driveway. She bought me a Snow Joe battery powered snowthrower last Christmas. Havent had a chance to use it. I do still tarp the cars - makes clean up a snap.
New house and we just bought a new dining room set so we are hosting. Just my folks - her folks cant make it.
Got a supposed two car garage. Reorganizing it to fit at least one car is my next project.

(146,192 posts)We do have room in our garage for one car, and it is only a one-car garage. We don't park in it, however, because the car we would protect is the one we use the most, so it is on the driveway nearer the street than our pickup, which won't be driven much in the winter.
So, what I do is clear the snow off both cars, then open the garage, fire up the snowblower and move it onto the driveway. Then, I drive the pickup into the garage. I then clear the snow off the driveway, starting at the garage. When i have cleared the space where the pickup was, I move the second car up into that space and then clear the rest of the driveway. It's the most efficient routine I have been able to work out.
My entire snow removal routine, which includes my driveway, part of my neighbor's driveway, the city sidewalks in front of three house, and the walks and porches for my house, takes about an hour and a half. I have to hand shovel the porches and the walkways on my lot, which job I detest, at my doddering age of 75. Still, I persist.
The snow is supposed to stop falling here about about 10 AM, which is an hour from now. So, I have girded my loins and will venture out soon to take care of that chore.

(10,148 posts)last night and today. Stay safe!
We're in Appleton, WI at the top of Winnebago. Only rain for us with maybe a dusting today, but 45 mph winds gusts. Another storm on Friday, so here we go!
Happy Thanksgiving!
P.S. Our daughter's a Gopher alumna, and I'm a Badger, so we're looking forward to the game on Saturday for the AXE!

(146,192 posts)We're not big fans of the U of M here, being staunch Nebraska fans. We'll watch the game, though, on Saturday. It should be a good one, I think.

(10,148 posts)Yep! The game will be worth the time, and a good day to light the fireplace and just veg.

This Thursday my wife and I will enjoy a favorite meal, and then well spend the rest of the day in front of a fire in the fireplace, listening to the rain pour down.

(11,370 posts)We are supposed to travel to CA for a few days from Southern OR. Main freeway a mess from yesterdays storm and still closed in places.
Still planning on traveling because of my 92 year old mom in CA but might cancel last minute.
I love living here but winter traveling is a challenge over passes.
