Republicans argue that Democrats have been trying to impeach Donald Trump since Day One

I would argue that Donald Trump has been trying to impeach himself since Day One.

He was showing his scofflaw tactics even before he was inaugurated. His disregard for the Constitution and the law were on full display for all to see.

When he hired Paul Manafort, red flags went up all over. When he fired James Comey and publicly attacked the FBI and the "deep state", he was well on his way to impeaching himself. In fact, Nancy Pelosi once stated that Donald Trump would "self-impeach".

Mr Trump truly believed that Article II permitted him to do whatever he wanted, without any guidelines or rules of law.

Now, the Republicans are accusing the Democrats of wanting to impeach Donald Trump since Day One. It's all about politics because they lost the election in 2016, they say.

The truth of the matter is that the Republicans controlled the House, Senate, and the White House up to March of this year, when the Democrats took control of the House, after Trump's government shutdown.

But, that never slowed down Mr Trump. He continued his reckless and lawless ways and now he is going to be impeached.

It's about time.

1. It is long overdue. He should have been censured/rebuked his first day

in office. People thought when he took office he would sober up, change and “become Presidential”. Wrong. What we saw is what we got. A repulsive, foul mouthed megalomaniac.

week for a year and you don't admonish them and a year goes by and boom you call the cops.

For prez dipshit, with Censure, it would have been, we warned you and warned you to abide by law and Constitution...

Btw, no matter WHAT we do he will always say he is exonerated. He would say it from a prison cell.

Al Capone must be someplace in Hell wishing he'd have thought of that.

"You just don't like me, Agent Ness! You're being mean to me! You're just a Never-Caponer or a DemocRAT!"

Of course Capone didn't have a large cult of supporters brainwashed by TV and radio and religious cons into believing the "truth" is whatever they want it to be--or whatever their racist messiah tells them it is.

61. Cody Fenwick put it like this for AlterNet:

[T]here’s some truth to [Kevin] McCarthy’s claim that some people have long thought Trump should be impeached, and Ukraine is just the most salient issue on which to launch an impeachment. I, for one, have written many times that Trump has committed impeachable offenses and should never have been elected in the first place. Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib memorably said in January, “We’re going to impeach the motherfucker!”

But conservatives draw the wrong inference from this fact. They say that since critics of the president wanted Trump to be impeached all along, the calls to impeach him over the Ukraine scandal can’t be taken seriously.

In fact, the Ukraine scandal just proves that Trump’s critics calling for impeachment were right all along.

4. Trump stole the 2016 election and *should* have been

impeached on day one and the rightful winner Hillary Clinton sworn in as POTUS.

But he 'got away with it' and then attempted to use the same playbook to steal 2020, by extorting Ukraine for dirt - but got caught because of the whistleblower.

tried to make President Obama an ineffective leader? tRump NEVER should have made it into the WH. He is completely unqualified, has absolutely no people skills and SUCKS at EVERYTHING. He is a disgrace. Shaming this country on the national stage. Seems he was the best the gop could do, which does not speak well for their "party". Watching Goetz, Gym Jordan, Nunes and others, maybe tRump really WAS the "best and brightest"? For the gop, but we democratic members look for QUALITY, integrity, CLASS and intelligence in the people we promote as leaders. A failed con man with a former "lady of the evening" as first lady hardly would have been considered a real candidate for us. Add to that his 6 bankruptcies 3 marriages, his demeaning comments about females, his grifting family and the (D)'s would have laughed him right out of the race. The repubs. scraped the bottom of their barrel and now are making complete fools of themselves defending the traitor. Lay down with dogs, get up with fleas, or in this case BEDBUGS?

17. Yep

It seems like today's Republicans regard impeachment as a statement against a political opponent, not as a process to uncover corruption. I have no doubt that had Hillary been elected, they would have started on Day 1 with a campaign to find something, anything, to impeach her over. They tried it with Obama, but he was so clean they couldn't find anything to stick on him.

To them, it's all a game. It's all about one-upping the other side. They don't really give a shit about running the government correctly or about helping anyone except their wealthy masters.

He most likely wanted to be president primarily for two reasons.

1. I heard he is involved in 2000 law suits. No doubt he would really like to place himself above the law.

2. Make money from his position, including "benefits" from Putin. No doubt there is some sort of extortion, blackmail, and quid pro quo administered by Putin (or his cabal of oligarchs).

Or maybe Trump is just an old fashioned mobster who has had good fixers so far.

As you say, he ain't seen nothin' yet.

62. Recommended.

I'm reminded of the republican attacks on two people employed with the FBI, who sent each other text messages during the 2016 campaign. The guy was investigating the connections between individuals in the Trump campaign and Russia's military intelligence. Later investigations of his role in investigating the casmpaign showed he was 100% objective in his work. But on his own time, he said some "mean" things about Trump. (He also said bad things about Clinton.)

What the heck do they expect? If you are investigating criminals, you likely aren't going to have a high opinion of them. As long as you do your job correctly, I think it's okay to not like criminals, or want one to become president.

I recall on the night of OBama’s Inauguration (or very close to the beginning of his term) Mitch McConnell announced their intention to “make him a one term President”. They were openly saying they were watching him and intending to make his term and life miserable by refusing to co-operate on anything. So it takes a crap ton of gall to act all hurt and bent out of shape over tRump. He brought all of his woes upon himself. If he doesn’t like it, we’ll happily show him the way out. Same thing applies to Moscow Mitch.

64. Yesterday during the hearing republicans kept accusing the Democrats

of having already decided how they are going to vote on the impeachment.

I just wanted to hear one Democrat ask "Will all the republicans who have not decided how they are voting raise their hands."

65. And that after the Dems kept their powder so dry, for so long!

They just went and said it anyway. The nerve of them, to just say things without a factual basis.

67. They really do believe their own "partisan witchhunt" narrative.

Just like this guy, it's not just that the evidence is against them; rather, the facts simply show they are wrong.

68. He & his administration will live and die as scofflaws. They'll ride with him and then all go down.

They are collective traitors, puppets of Russian propaganda.

Their collective acquittal will prove their collective obstruction of justice.

If their court of appeal is Nov 2020 ... I dread the outcome.

Does that then mean Democrats candidates can promised other countries xyz for their help in exposing trump, and getting dirt on him in exchange for say things that would help them greatly when they get into office?

70. This is where the repubs and reality part ways

Yes, some Democrats were calling for impeachment before the Ukraine episode. This is a fact that exists but has no bearing on his innocence or guilt. Even if you take the position for the sake of argument that he did nothing close to impeachable conduct before Ukraine and that some Democrats were just "out to get him", HE STILL DID UKRAINE! His actions and words, not made up or some sort of railroading.

I am always amazed at the unspoken parts of what the republicans say. Whenever they talk about the desire to impeach from early on or the process, there is a huge "... and therefore he is innocent" implied at the end of it. It gives an escape route for their base voters who are already predisposed to think he is innocent but can't work out exactly how in the face of the evidence. Problem is, in the world of reality and logic there is no path to proof of his innocence, there is no escape. The rank and file would have to leave their critical thinking behind to get to the fantasy world that they prefer. This tactic by the republicans is not new, it is the same one they usually use to explain the benefits of tax cuts for the rich. There was always the "... and then the tax savings will be used to create jobs" implication. You ever notice that "create jobs" and "invest in the economy" are not in the tax cut bills? The rich just get the money.

73. They always project

They were gleefully indicating that they couldn't wait to begin impeachment proceedings against Hillary Clinton if she became President. Their tactic is to always project their own slimy, partisan behavior onto the opposition.

78. Remember it was Trump that pushed the Birther meme. It was the GOP who planned to obstruct Obama....

...from day one. To limit him to one term. It was a GOP congress member who called Obama a liar in the SOTU address.

THE GOP LONG AGO SET THE LOW STANDARDs FOR BEHAVIOR TOWARD A PRESIDENT OF THE OTHER PARTY. Now they whine about it. So to quote White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney LIVE WITH IT!

Trump has self impeached by ignoring the Constitution and breaking laws and norms since day one.

He has said that Article II gives him the right to do anything he wants. Including shoot someone on 5th Ave.

HIS behavior has brought on the IMPEACHMENT. LIVE WITH IT !!!!

80. True - difference is we are impeaching him of being an unmorraly scumbag....

Whereas Republicans wanted to impeach Obama for being black.

Treasonous scumbag lawbreaker vs a Clean cut President; trump will NEVER be on or above the same level as Obama when it comes to morals!
