Blessed be the Rhododendron and alligators.....

Church uses crop duster plane to spray holy water upon Louisiana faithful
The Rev Matthew Barzare blessed 100 gallons of water to deliver a low-flying benediction on his 200-family parish

A Louisiana church took to the heavens to bring a Christmas service to the masses – spraying vast amounts of holy water over its rural parish from a low-flying crop duster airplane.

The Rev Matthew Barzare blessed 100 gallons of water that members of his congregation loaded on to the small plane at an airstrip near St Anne church in Abbeville, checking first that all pesticides had been flushed through.

“It’s an isolated parish and this was a way of bringing people together at the holidays,” Barzaere told the Guardian. “I have a large area to cover, we measure it by the numbers of families rather than square footage.”
++++
Barzare said the flight was so popular he intends to make it a Christmas tradition for his 200-family parish, next year with three times the amount of water.

“We weren’t expecting it to get the publicity it did. It was just a small thing we were doing in the parish, then the diocese posted the photographs on Facebook. We’ll be planning to do it again next year. We can bless a larger area with 300 gallons of water than we can with 100,” he added.

May as well preach his sermon over loudspeakers from the plane and save heat and lights at the church.....

2. I could go for that! Outdoor service in communion with nature.

"May as well preach his sermon over loudspeakers from the plane and save heat and lights at the church..."

4. If he wants to bring families together for the holidays

Maybe he should actually bring them together by having services.

And maybe he should consider that if people chose to NOT go to the services they are not interested in his religion and do not want some supposed "holy water" dumped out of a plane onto their heads.

5. Yes, and as if folks are going to run out in their yards and wait on the plane.

What you said was exactly the way it struck me. What's happened to people's sense of community and need to be social with everyone?

Follows the trend where right-wingers want everyone to act as an independent island and existing in a bubble - just amplifies the divisiveness we're seeing across our nation.

KY.............

7. What I was thinking of was my sister's group of friends

Many of them have no families to spend Christmas with, either none, or none local. They get together and have a hot dog cookout on Christmas Day. Since many are not Christian, none are Catholic, and few practice any religion, having water sprayed on their heads during their cookout would be more than annoying.

My sister has been hosting it for over 25 years - this year she passed the day along to another in the group. She still attended but didn't want to do all the work any more.

If some idiot crop duster flew over and sprayed water on them, it would not improve their moods...

It's a comfort to know they won't go to hell.

12. They could go out of fashion

And, really, isn’t that the same thing as hell anyway. Or maybe worse.

9. How well did they wash the old pesticides out of the tanks???

Or do they prefer the flock with a poison in their system. I bet it knocks down that pesky critical thinking that pops up from time to time.
